Let me make this clear: if you have perfect eyesight, then at one foot away the iPhone 4’s pixels are resolved. The picture will look pixellated. If you have average eyesight, the picture will look just fine.
So in a sense, both Jobs and Soneira are correct. At the very worst, you could claim Jobs exaggerated; his claim is not true if you have perfect vision. But for a lot of people, I would even say most people, you’ll never tell the difference. And if you hold the phone a few inches farther away it’ll look better.
So in my opinion, what Jobs said was fine. Soneira, while technically correct, was being picky. So I mildly disagree with him about that. I had to laugh, though: his dismissing (near the bottom of the Wired article) of the Quattro TV’s use of a fourth, yellow, pixel is dead on. When I first heard of that I knew right away it was a silly claim.
Still, the headline used by Wired.com was clearly incorrect; Jobs wasn’t falsely advertising the iPhone’s capabilities at all. I’ll note that I like Wired magazine quite a bit, and what we have here is most likely just an overzealous editor. But a lot of people read the headlines and it taints their view; someone reading that article may be more likely to think Jobs, once again, has overblown a product to excite people. He didn’t.
ok so Steve Jobs is correct as long as you DON'T have perfect vision. which i agree most don't. but for those of us that do, it is a false claim. plain and simple and Soneira is as your hubble guy says "technically correct"

Doubtful average people pay attention to the fact that Verizon Wireless is not 100% American company. It is a JV between Verizon and Vodafone (55/45) and the Brits rejected Verizon offer to buy out the remaining 45% of stock in 2006. The Brits has also repeatedly indicated that it would be willing to buy out Verizon's stake.
Needless to say, AT&T gives Steve relatively less headache since he does not need to have additional worry about who's really running the carrier.
Plus, did I forget to mention Apple create the first gen IPhone during a secretive and unprecedented collaboration with Cingular Wireless at the time? Cingular Wireless was a JV of SBC Communications and Bell South, all of which merged to become AT&T we know today.
WRT capex on developing 4G infrastructures, AT&T is known to be relatively conservative to spend big, serious money on revamping the network and it's understandable things are still work in progress and that's in addition to integrate different networks at old SBC, Alltel, and BellSouth.
Unlike Verizon, AT&T adopts steady as it goes approach to upgrade, install and revamp the infrastructures over time instead of burning piles of cash like crazy in one swoop to upgrade everything in short time frame, posing integration, teething and execution risks.
Though not a CFA or an accountant by trade but for me the cash flow at Verizon looks very suspect and the current juicy dividend seems to be at risk of getting cut. That's on top of highly probable amortization of the hardware used to upgrade the infrastructures. Am I wrong??

Apple iPhone on T-Mobile? Analyst says may be soon

The iPhone will be available on other cell phone networks as early as this fall and will likely come first to T-Mobile USA, one analyst who follows Apple Inc. closely said Thursday.
In a note to investors, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu said his checks with Apple suppliers and others suggest AT&T Inc. will lose its exclusive place as the iPhone carrier no later than the first half of next year.
One reason T-Mobile is a likely candidate is because the company's wireless technology is similar to AT&T's. Sprint and Verizon Wireless use a different wireless standard, so converting the iPhone to run on their networks would presumably involve more technical hurdles.
Wu said T-Mobile also sees the iPhone as key to winning back lost customers, meaning the company will be more likely to settle for Apple's terms.
"T-Mobile does not comment on rumor or speculation," T-Mobile USA spokesman Peter Dobrow said Thursday.
"Would we like to offer the iPhone to T-Mobile customers in the U.S.? You bet. Ultimately though it is Apple's decision on who carries its product," Dobrow added.
In any case, Wu said, Apple needs to sign up another U.S. carrier to keep up the pace of iPhone sales and counter the rising competition of phones that run on Google Inc.'s Android software.
Neither Apple nor AT&T have said when their exclusive deal is slated to end.

Sure, but no complaint when both "craps" are essentially acting like oligopolists and functioning as tolls like hmm....407.
Nothing makes stakeholders jump for joy when these "craps" collect the fees like annuities from everybody, especially hefty surcharges by rigorously enforcing and implementing bandwidth cap/download quota on IPhone and IPad hippies.

The iPhone 4's 3.5-inch display is the highest resolution screen ever put in a phone.
I've read that the display is so good that apps developed for it will work with the larger iPad display without being reworked.....

there was no such option when the 3Gs became available, also at&t fucking up again. reports of messed up orders, duplicate billing and security breaches.
