You know it is the perfect washroom device if it only had a water proof skin.
LOL, at one point last year Jobs was rumored to have said it had to be good for something other than surfing on the can.....

Apple sells 2 million iPads in less than 60 days

(CNET) -- Apple says that it has sold more than 2 million iPads since the device debuted April 3rd.
It's safe to assume that the vast majority of those sales came from the U.S. market, as the iPad only just went on sale last weekend in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. Apple didn't say how many iPads were sold internationally.
Speculation that Apple is having a hard time keeping up with demand for the iPad seems to have been confirmed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement announcing the sales numbers Monday.
"We appreciate [customer] patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone," said Jobs.
Apple also said there are now 5,000 apps specifically built for the iPad in the AppStore. In all, Apple has more than 200,000 apps in the store that are compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, or the iPad.
It took Apple 28 days to sell its first million iPads and about the same amount of time to sell its second million. It will be interesting to see what happens to sales now that the iPad is available in more countries.

pretty impressive. but i'm still waiting for the alternatives. it's missing so much of what i would expect of a tablet device
although it would be good for the bathroom i suppose ;)
Interesting market share over the last couple of months....

Well I played with a customer's iPad today for a good 2 hours.
Initial WiFi issues were there, but we got it working.

Overall, for me the novelty wore off after I left her house.
While it's impressive using it for the first time and I can see its appeal because of its convenience - being able to surf the web with a small screen on your lap or in bed.
You can't multi-task which is a no-no and not being able to visit a flash based site hinders the user experience a bit for me.

I'm not knocking it completely, but I'm not exactly overly impressed with it.
IMO, it's a bigger version of the iTouch.

I'll wait a couple of years to see what they do with it and what Android (as well as others) come up with.

Native iPad app library passes 10,000 milestone

By Daniel Eran Dilger
Published: 03:00 PM EST

Apple's iTunes App Store now lists more than 10,000 universal and iPad specific apps, with nearly 1,000 more being added every week.

According to a report by Mac Stories, Apple's iPad library includes over 2,100 games and includes a broad mix of content from digital books to productivity and news apps to rich media apps.

Around 78% of iPad specific titles are paid apps, echoing the findings of an earlier report by Moblix that cited an 80% paid mix in April when the iPad store first opened with around 3,000 titles.

A slightly smaller percentage (around 75%) of the iPhone's 225,000 titles are also paid apps. This indicates iPad users are more willing to pay for premium content.

Faster growth, despite Apple's approval process

According to a report by PadGadget, growth of the iPad apps library has outpaced the original iPhone App Store, which took almost five months to reach the 10,000 app milestone in 2008.

The site also notes that Google's Android Market took almost 11 months to reach 10,000 apps; that store has no approval process in place screening apps for performance as advertised or other quality control issues.

Google currently forbids Android tablet makers from putting Android Market on their non-smartphone devices, so there is no official market for Android-based tablet software comparable to what Apple maintains for iPad users.

In just 63 days, Apple's curated App Store for iPad has taken third place after iPhone apps and Android smartphone apps. PadGadget notes that HP's Palm/webOS, RIM's BlackBerry App World, and Nokia's Symbian platform all boast fewer than 7,000 apps.

In deference to our fact challenged Apple hater I thought a picture might help it sink in: http://photos.appleinsider.com/ipad10k.001.jpg

Apple selling 1.2 million iPads per month, rate could double by holidays

By Kasper Jade
Published: 07:00 AM EST

Monthly sales of Apple's new iPad device have been rising steadily over the past several months, prompting the electronics maker to adopt a second supplier of 9.7-inch display panels in anticipation of strong fourth quarter sales that could top 6 million.

According to Taiwanese market sources, Samsung electronics will join LG Display as a supplier of the iPads LCD panels next month, with estimated monthly shipments expected to fall in the range of 300,000 to 500,000 per month.

The move comes amid a sharp uptick in iPad sales over the past 60 days that coincided with Apple's international launch of the device, which began ramping last month and broadened availability into Europe and parts of Asia.

The Cupertino-based company is now producing 1.2 million iPads each month, up from 800,000-900,000 units in May, 700,000 units in April, 470,000 units in March, and 300,000 in February.

Researchers for DigiTimes believe iPad sales may further increase twofold to 2.5 million units per month by the time the holidays roll around. By then, Apple will have released iOS 4 for iPad, delivering features such as multi-tasking and a unified mailbox.

It's estimated that Apple pays between $80 and $90 to its suppliers for each of the iPad's 9.7-inch display panels.

Exactly my sentiments about the iPad and all the coming copy-cat imitations....
Here's another quote to record for later.

The moment any Android tablet comes out that as a possible alternative to the iPad, expect El Woody to come out praising it.
