Can anyone help me with a problem re-IE? How does one eliminate/erase the url's that appear automatically in the drop down below the address bar?

When you begin typing, the first letter you hit automatically releases a number of previous addresses accessed beginning with the same letter. E.g under "a", I have "aircanada", "aol", and "awesomeasses", etc. I think you can guess which one I would like to eliminate. I have tried deleting all files, temporary folders, Internet history, and cookies, but these darn things don't seem to want to leave.

Your counsel is much appreciated,

Jelloman

Wherever I shouldn't be
Tools>>Internet options>>content>>autocomplete
Uncheck web addresses.
Your browser will no longer save these. For some bizarre reason clear history doesn't always work. This can obviously cause problems.

"Clear Temporary Internet Files" - Also does NOT clear all Temporary Internet Files.

Dont believe me?

After clearing your Temporary Internet Files
Goto to your "Temporary Internet Files" directory and under the "Content.IE5" directory you will see many directories with nonsensical names, look in those directories and you will stuff from the very first time you logged on to the internet. I retrieve dozens of megabytes upon deleting those directories, which I do monthly.

There a many free browsers out there that have popup stoppers built right in the browser and also easily clear all the temp stuff, IE is way behind.

Thanks for the advice. I tried all recommendations. The drop down history has disappeared, which is good, but I still get the url's in the address line when I start typing the first couple of letters . . . not every site, but there are a few still lingering in there for some reason.

Any further advice?

Thanks,

I recently downloaded "Windows Washer" from Webroot.

It has a 30 day free trial.
Its awesome!

Deletes all files, history, traces, even registry logs related to your browsing.

Very good product!

I use a program called IE Privacy Keeper... it removes all traces of history on IE....

Before I found this, I also kept my IE history to 0 days to retain and turned autocomplete off... neither worked as well as this program. It also erases traces in Real Player and Windows Media Player...great little free program...
