That is devastating news! I have seen many programs on him and he is a legend of his own kind. The most recent show I have seen was on him and Jesse James making the best bikes of there own kind and and riding them accross the Mojobi desert to a competition to see who people would vote the best of there time and he won with his classic old style bike. R.I.P.

I don't feel particularly sorry. He's now the perfect poster child for wearing a helmet.

Live by stupidity, die by stupidity. He should be nominated for the Darwin Awards...

Man how can you say that.. "Nominated for the darwin awards"

That is just plain degradeing and cold, to his family and fans. The guy was a legend. He has done that stunt many of times. Even on the discovety channel, he's done is a few times. Without any problems Give him the respect that he deserves. His history goes way back when choppers wasn't as big as now. He was one of the first builders and stuntman to do anything on a motorcycle. Even though he didn't wear a helmet, yeah I know that is wrong, but it is not a good thing to say what you said above..

svtcobra: If he had been wearing a helmet, would he have survived?

If yes => Then I agree with Keebler Elf. Darwin Award candidate.
If no => Then I agree with you, and Keebler's comment was unwarranted.

Goober: Yes he may have survived, but going at a certain speed to perform that stunt, the helmet would have saved his head to a certain point, but at the speeds he would have done more damage to his body, most likely allot of internal injuries, and he probably wouldn't have lived, due to internal bleeding.

Also it depends on what type of helmet he would have worn, Some of his helmet on the show didn't really protect allot around his head, Even though he would have hit his head on impact with the ground. His brain would have taken a major beating at the speed he as going at, it doesn't take allot for the brain to be smacked around in anyone head to substain any type of brain injury

Live fast and die hard i guess.

He knew what he was doing everytime he did it, he was fun to watch. he'd put his legs over his bars and lay back on the seat and ride for miles sometimes.

Damn, I just seen him on TV for the first time last night. Not wearing a helmet is a risk is was willing to take. As the saying goes...Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I seek vacation spots (such as Jamaica) where I can rent a bike and cruise off with nothing on my head but my glasses.... unless you have done it you have no basis to judge. I feel alot safer riding there, like that, than cruising the 401, buckled and air bagged into 2500lbs of metal.

Regarding wearing or not wearing helmets, any real biker will tell you they'd rather be dead than be a vegetable. Anyways, it's about freedom.

It's kind of ironic that's a stunt he's performed hundreds of times.

Hats off to the last lone wolf.

if the guy had been wearing full safety equipment - full-face helmet, leathers, gloves, etc - he would have likely walked away with little more than bruises or some broken bones at most.

unless you crash into something, MC crashes often are not that traumatic... if you slide... you get bruises and road rash... if you roll, thats when you get broken bones but rarely more.

It's pretty sad.

Whether or not he was wearing a helmt doesn't change the fact that we have lost a genuine talent.

I saw a show on the discovery channel recently where he and Billy Lane rode to Stergis together to compete their creations there against each other.

Indian Larry ended up winning, but I will never forget what he did.

He went up on the stage and told the crowd that he didn't win, that Billy didn't win, that it was an exact draw. That there were no losers.

He hauled Billy Lane up on stage and gave him a huge hug and a smile and cut the trophy in half and gave Billy half.

It was really something.

Jesse James also called him friend.

He seemed to be pretty classy of what i could see.

Does anyone know why they called him "Indian" Larry??

Was it because of the Indian Motorcycles, or because he was part indian, or what?
