if the guy had been wearing full safety equipment - full-face helmet, leathers, gloves, etc - he would have likely walked away with little more than bruises or some broken bones at most.

unless you crash into something, MC crashes often are not that traumatic... if you slide... you get bruises and road rash... if you roll, thats when you get broken bones but rarely more.

This is far from the truth , the reality is it depends how you land , with or without a helmet you could crack your spine and be paralysed for life or break your neck and die.

Since he was the expert let's assume he knew the risk of dying was just as great with or without a helmet and perhaps he did not want the option of living like a vegetable.

I just like to say what a privilege it was to talk with Indian Larry just a few days before he died, he was the most respectful person I have ever talked with.

I remember him doing a build off with this guy who thought he was all of that and laughing at Larry . Anyways his bike wouldn't start and Larry helped him to start it and never once did he rub the guys face in it. He was a class act all the way.

And the girls with dinks whining about him having no helmet...

I am really sure he would give a flying f*#k if you felt sorry for him or approve of what he did.

Here some advice for you...get a dress on and be who you really are hehehehehehe!!!

him not wearing the helmut is what makes the trick so great...sure it's exciting to see guys in full equipment doing tricks but the danger factor does'nt get ones blood going like someone doing tricks without saftey equipment.....as sick as it is, people love watching some push the danger envelope.

either way he's gone, and he went doing what he loved most.

That was Billy Lane and as a result of that series Billy's eyes were opened. Seems that Indian Larry has this effect on everyone he meets. You come away from it with newfound respect for the man.
Well I saw another show with Billy Lane with an orange chopper and the exhaust built in the fender and it looked awesome but he was pulling the same shit with another guy and guess what his freakin bike wouldn't start again....I was thinking is this guy ever gonna grow up??

My respects.

The man went in all the wrong directions in his life and pulled himself out of all of them.

A true role model.

Rest in peace.

Billy has some maturing to do.

Dave Perowitz and Indian Larry are / were a couple of cool cats who didn't take themselves too seriously.

By the way, I was looking at Billy Lane's website. Apparently he has 2 degrees in Mechanical Engineering.

Interesting, who would have thought it.

LMFAO!!!

A true role model?!?! Yeah, for why you should wear a helmet while on a motorcycle.

I don't understand why people pander to people who endanger their own lives and serve as a bad influence on others to do the same. If you don't think seeing this guy standing on his bike while in motion isn't contributing to somebody else emulating him then I'd say you've got your blinders on big-time. And putting it on TV is even worse.

Billy has come up with some really good ideas, one of them being the brake rotors around the perimeter of the rim instead of a traditional disk rotor for the rear brake. It's a cool idea and has been copied. I'm not sure if he is the first one to use it as I heard about it during a bike show I was watching in the past.

It's nice to see all the custom builders have dedicated their front page to Indian Larry.

To see the bikes sheik is talking about go to Billy's site at www.choppersinc.com and look for the psycho billy cadilac, and the money shot.

They're really cool to see.

I agree about the helmet, but anybody on two wheels will take off their helmet when they are in a No Helmet Law State in the U.S. It's a idiotic part of wanting to ride in the first place.

Being a role model isn't always for the bad things you do in life but sometimes for overcoming the bad things you do in life. I never met the dude, but the guy sounds like he could have gone the wrong way many times in his life. Anyone with alcohol or drug problems should look at Indian Larry and how he won over his addictions.

Indian Larry has my respect. Always.

I was watching Discovery today with Jesse James and Indian Larry riding to Sturgess, at the end saw the "In Memory of Indian Larry". I'm about 4 months late, but this guy is a legend, his skills will definately be missed.

Heck, just watching the discovery shows, you wanted to shake this guy's hand and give him a hug. I don't ride motorcycles but i can totaly relate to riding without a helmet.

PS: Paul and Sheik, you guys can kiss my spandex-laden ass :)

I remember watching a Discovery Channel show with Indian Larry and Jesse James. I can't remember what all it was about, but I believe they were heading to Sturgis (spelling?) or another bike show.

During the show, they showed Indian Larry standing on his bike while going down the highway, and he stated he knew that it was a dangerous thing to do, but when the Lord said it was his time, it would be his time. He was unafraid of dying, he knew it would happen in time, and there is something I have to respect about that.
