Khader Adnan was a political activist in Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The Shin Bet security service arrested him for the first time nearly 20 years ago, and since then it arrested him and threw him into prison 12 times, nearly always without charges or trial. He undertook his first hunger strike in an Israeli prison in 2000, repeating it six times over the years until his death this week.
