There is a little sticker on the doorframe that says where it is made.

When buying or leasing a import car, be it a honda, mazda, audi, bmw, etc, etc. How would you know if it was made from the import country or made domestic?

Any web pages to find out?

Thanks boys,
I believe the first character in the VIN determines the origin of manufacture. I'm sure the sales representative would be able to confirm this for you.

I don't think where it is made is really an accurate question. Where it is assembled is really not indivative of it's content.

I remember back in the 80's the Toronto Police were about to refit their fleet and were doing research. One of the cars up on the list was the Plymouth Horizon, another was Toyota Corolla. They were leaning towards the Plymouth but discovered that the Corolla actually had more Canadian Content than the horizon. This is due to the amount of materials manufactured in Canada as well as raw materials (plastics, steel, etc).

Where to find this info online? I have no idea but do not discount or praise a a vehicle because it was assembled in Canada.

The first character of the VIN indicates country of origin.

Off the top of my head, I only recall that 1 is USA, 2 is Canada and J is Japan. I forget the rest. I'm sure there's something on the net you could find out.

3 is Mexico . . it is doubtful that all the parts of any car are made in one place.

The smaller Hondas and Toyotas are made in Ontario. At least assembled in Alliston and Cambridge.
