Um. Do you have a different definition of fascism than the dictionary?
Not to defend drewstar too much but fascism is a very contested definition.
He's being ridiculous, yes, but it isn't like a casual look at the dictionary is going to be enough.

Yes which is Ford fucking over businesses again. Either keep the mandate or revoke any right to request it. He again puts business owners in a no win situation because he is afraid to take a stand in any direction.
As its a private business, I'm not sure he can state they aren't allowed to ask for it. Same argument for employees may apply to customers. No different than no shoes, no shirt.

As to the general theme of the thread, the OP is also stating she doesn't trust the science of the vaccine to protect her from serious illness. Her choice, but I do trust the science.

Calling for change is whining? Disagreeing with the policy, protesting the government's overreach is whining?
When you do it incessantly for over 2 years it is. When you complain about every single measure that they try to implement it is.

Whine:

complain in a feeble or petulant way.
"the waitress whined about the increased work"

Similar:
complaint, complaining, grouse, grousing, moan, moaning, moans and groans, grouch, grouching, grumble, whining, carping, murmur, murmuring, whispering, mithering, twine, gripe, griping, bellyache, bitch, beef, beefing, whinge, whingeing, wail, whimper, cry, sob, mewl. groan, howl, yowl

But we're not whining about our freedoms and making a federal case about it.
I thought that was exactly what Grace's post was about, whining the increased freedom of not checking vaccine passports.

or do bbqs

I dont want to eat my dinner with unvaccinated coughing and blowing up a storm in the restaurant
Id take sitting next to an unvaxxed person versus a smoker anyday.

Also, why care if you’re vaxxed. Storm in a teacup darling. Leave the 10% alone, now you’re just bullying.

Im triple vaxxed and I have nothing against the unvaccinated. I don’t get the anger.

Besides, we’ll all be unvaccinated in about 4 months.

No, she's accepting of that situation. It is what it is and this is how she'll deal with it, like an adult.

That is very different than the people against mandates who, instead of dealing with it, whine about them and demand that they get removed. That's whining. "Wha, wha, I don't like it. Screw the majority and change it just for me and the rest of my loud fringe minority." Child like and selfish approach. It's been selfish since day 1.

You’re way out of touch. I think the majority have dealt with mandates for 2 years. When the rest of intelligent world moves on, introducing mandates is the wrong move for Canada. While I’m not with the protesters, I understand their frustration.

I don’t think going broke is whining.

Then I don't think you'll ever be returning to restaurants again, although you should recognize that you used to go to them when there were lots of other transmissible diseases about.

Just as well, you'll be healthier by cooking for yourself at home. Another example of doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.

We should be charitable towards our fellow citizens. Fact is, a good portion of the population got themselves vaccinated because they were simply scared. Another set got blackmailed into it by the mandates/employers. The scared are still scared- that's the nature of fear and those who bent under pressure are simply pissed off they had no balls to stand up- especially now when they can see the sham of "science" in lifting of the restrictions. I'm generalizing, of course, but I'm not far off, judging by the reactions I get from the people around me.

You’re so right, but I would suggest also wrapping yourself in bubble wrap and hiding in the closet. There’s also the bad common cold bugs, and the bad flu bugs, and ecoli ,and salmonella etc etc and heaven help us all if a filthy dog with fleas walks by!, Run for the hills!! Oh, and I think Dougie couldn’t give a f*ck what you do.

I’m also triple faxed, flu shot, etc etc, and have four very close unvaccinated friends that I see often, sit close, eat together, drink together, sit in cars together, share the odd legal recreation together and I have zero issues, haven’t contacted Covid, a cold, the flu, or any other disease from them. It’s their business. Like I say to them often, “I don’t care what you do with your body, pass the dutchie on the left hand side”.

I have to agree with this even though I would rather passports remain a bit longer personally. At some point it becomes risk/reward. My dining in a restaurant I am putting myself at risk of exposure to covid or the flu or headlice if the person behind me has it or risk that the deranged cook might spit in my food.
In the same way that I see escorts who could have an STI, I take a chance and do my best to take all precautions.

I have been critical of unvaccinated who refused to accept the situation and felt they mixed up the privilege of attending a sporting event or concert or eating at a restaurant versus some "right" to do those things, which I maintain does not exist. I can't now be hypocritical and cry foul now. I accept that unvaccinated will be getting back access to these privileges and it's up to everyone whether or not they choose to partake.

In the summer I would dine outdoor patio at restaurants. But for the most part, I cook at home a skill I learn from stay-at-home orders, nothing is better than BBQ with family and friends at home.
I can so much relate.

Since the pandemic I now have 3 BBQ, a slow cooker, an air fryer and 4-5 new cookbooks (I really like Raichlen and Ramsey).

I learned how to smoke trout, salmon, ribs... next summer I try the brisket (I wanted some practice before buying a piece of meat as expansive as 1h with fabulous Kate of XO in Montreal ;) ).

I showed my kids how to do smash burgers with bigmac style sauce. They now prefer it to going to mcdonalds!

I also teach them how to do pizza. Cooked at 600 degree with minimal stuffing. Just home made tomato sauce, garlic, basil, burrata cheese and some mushroom.

I received 20 people last summer and made Korean 'tacos'. Huge success!

So yeah the pandemic really for me was a turning point that I can do better then a restaurant. At a much lower price.
