Had a Pony. Ran like crap most of the time, the suspension was a joke, and top speed was less than the speed limit in many parts of the country. But I drove it from Edmonton to Ottawa without a hitch (except for 2-3 sets of points).

But the newer Hyundais look like something to write home about.

It was the same with Honda and Toyota back in the day - enter the fray with cheap crap that sells well and then move upmarket...

I'm more of a high end Mercedes, Maserati and Porsche type of guy but I do see many on the road.

If I were to venture in that category other than looks aside I believe that nothing in that category can beat Nissan, Honda and Toyota because their engines are superior in refinement.

Kia and Huundai still have to prove themselves, only time will tell. I still the big 3 Japanese cars from te 90's still on the road today.

Would you rather have a car that has a 5 year warranty where they fix stuff that breaks down or have a car that does not break down?
I've put 175,000km on an Elantra and haven't replaced a single thing (outside scheduled maintenance) besides a faulty sensor at the 10k mark. Never given me trouble. It has to be the most reliable car I've ever driven. I almost didn't give them a shot over at Hyundai, but my brother swore by them. Now I do too. I hope they keep it up.

I read somewhere Hyundai is planning to compete with Lexus, Merc, Audi, BMW. Kia will become the lower priced cars to compete with Toyotas and Fords.
So perhaps evenutally the pries will rise.

I believe they plan to start in 2009 when they will release the Genesis.

Hyundai and Kia are both great if you are in the market for a car under $30 k that is both a top safety pick and fully loaded. The Genesis is also a better value than the C class Mecedes except it lacks the prestige and an AWD option.

Anyong haseyo! Hyundai and Kia embraced Lean Six Sigma around 2000, and drove quality by using the J.D. Power IQS (Initial Quality Study) scores as a means to determine improvement projects. By relentlessly addressing customer issues, improving their design process and offering affordable vehicles, Hyundai and Kia have made their stake in the market.

A lot of people now have Hyundia's as their wallpaper. If you go to desktopnexus the Hyundia Sonata is ranked among the top car wallpaper downloads.

Hyundai keeps improving while Honda and Toyota have become complacent and are on the decline. Right now I'd rather drive a Hyundai. Toyota in the 70's was the Hyundai equivalent in the 80's, they quickly improved their product and became one of the top brands in the world, it looks like Hyundai is following in their footsteps.

You like reliable engines, yet you still like Mercedes, Maserati, and Porsche? A bit of a disconnect here. :)
Lol. That's exactly what I thought. Theres a reason my service advisors are on my Christmas card list!

A Civic is a better value than a C. A Genesis can't comfortably take on an E. If Hyundai did a better job promoting the Equus, it would sell pretty well, I think.

A few years ago when Toyota overtook GM for the spot as the worlds largest carmaker, the chairman said that it wasn't Detroit they kept their eyes on, it was Korea. Specifically, Hyundai.

You are comparing apples to oranges comparing the Civic to the C . Both the C class and the Genesis with premium pkg are around $50 k. C is AWD and a damn good car that will hold its value, Genesis is a damn good car with more room and luxury but not sure about value after 5 years.

The Elantra is a better value than the Civic.

The genesis is a different class of car than the C as well. Why not compare an accord to an s class?

Why don't all of the trim levels for the Elantra come with stick? I can understand for a mid-size car like the Sonata it might not be popular but the Elantra is a compact.

I have 3 KIA's, the oldest 10 years, put on a quarter million KM (250 000KM) and zero issues.
