So a date is in the process of being booked.

He says a certain date, the evening is planned, dinner at Rama, fun at the hotel after. Big call so required a deposit (you guys know how I feel about deposits but for a date like this, no choice.) So $100 is discussed as well as times for the date. During this time I know he has a hurt foot. He broke it, says should be heel by the date.

Deposit sent. 3 weeks goes by, date comes and he can’t do it, foot still messed up. Don’t have a new date in mind yet. And have now not heard a word from him in 2 weeks.

How long does the deposit get held for? I knew about the hurt foot and even though plans were made to the 90% mark, it was not complete in my mind. The time was not picked but the date itself was held for 3 weeks before he said he can’t give a time because he is still injured. So the date itself was held for him.

I know most escorts would say a new deposit would be required for a new appointment. He lost his deposit when he didn’t commit to the time of the date but the date itself was booked. So no refund or transfer.

I’m wondering what you guys think.

Return is should not happen in my opinion. The date was held for 3 weeks and no other appointment could be booked because of it. That is part of what a deposit does.

But if he calls in 2 weeks, does the deposit get transferred? What if he calls in a month? Two months? How long is it held for to transfer to a new date? Or not transferable at all?

Opinions…..

I guess in the strictest sense you are probably justified in keeping the small deposit and not transferring it. The broken foot is what I would call extenuating circumstances.

BUT - Jenesis you have a stellar and well deserved reputation. And you know what a firestorm that deposits cause. Why not ask the client what he wants to do re the appointment and decide what to do ? And take it from there. If he wants to re-book why not ask for a fresh $100 deposit but apply the entire $200 to the booking.

I am thinking that you would not take a booking like this with a first time client and in that case he is a worthwhile client that you enjoy ?

Keep it until you hear from him again. My guess is that you'll never hear from him again. Someone who is serious will update you. I hate carrot dangling but I think this is what he did....

I like the take a second deposit but apply both idea. That is a good one.

I haven’t heard from him in 2 weeks. We communicate by text. I have permission to text anytime and have but gotten no reply and I’m not one to hound. I’m not going to chase you down. I’m an escort, not a girlfriend. LOL.

Once the guy cancels, for any reason, you keep the deposit. That's the purpose of it. If he wants to rebook, he will need a new deposit.
We didn’t confirm the time of the session. Just the date and the location. So is it really “booked”?

Could be. But he is was a nice client. Not often but when he did, was nice. This was the first dinner date.

I’m not a deposit girl so I never thought of a carrot dangler. I have heard stories of guys just randomly booking, paying a deposit and ghosting. This is their “thing”. I don’t get it.

This is one of the reasons I hate deposits. I hate holding money of others. I know in some sense it is already mine but my accounting brain doesn’t work that way and it sits there until the transaction is compete.

Yes and no. You take the deposit as an insurance for your time. You did made time and did spent time planning your date. It's your money honey.

Makes sense.

In my day job, the job payment is paid throughout the project and is contracted. 25% upfront, 50% at half way and balance at the end. All the money is held until the job is done. So that is just what I am use to. But that doesn’t apply here in escorting. I have to remember that.

Ahah you could do that in real life. Ask for 25% upfront and then 50% after the first sog and 25% at the end lol.

If he's gone silent after seeing you several times and being as you say a good guy, his health may have taken a bad turn. Based on what you have stated he doesn't sound like a carrot dangler at all and as someone else mentioned, a carrot dangler doesn't successfully book with a dinner date included several times, give a deposit but was never serious about the booking. $100 isn't worth losing a client that may bring in more throughout the year if the relationship stays on a good footing.

I think you should just hold onto the deposit. The client missed the appointment; it doesn’t matter why or whether he books again.

If I was the client I would not have any hard feelings over it- it’s my own fault for booking an appointment before my foot healed.

Plus- his excuse sounds pretty lame to me. If I wanna gamble and have sex with a hot chic I’m not gonna let a sore foot stand in my way. This guy sounds like a loser to me; just keep his money and the next time you are at the casino just walk over to the Roulette table and put it down on 13 Black- you can thank me later! LOL

Right?! People don't realize, because they wouldn't do this, the extent someone can go to lie to you in this biz for their own selfishness and profit.

A clearly communicated cancellation policy, whether written or provided upfront, would have addressed this. Nevertheless, the payment accounts for your time, and given the elapsed duration, I suggest you retain it!

I misread Jen's post and this would have been their first dinner date but she had seen him before and he was a good guy. Why all of a sudden would he go rogue when his broken foot isn't in question? I wouldn't say return the deposit but for a good client who makes for a decent session, I think to be willing to postpone for a later date isn't unreasonable. I do it often in my own business with repeat clientele. I would never lose $10,000 throughout the year to pocket $500.00 today but that is just me.

This is true, and happens all the time by clients and providers.

Because clients go rogue just like good providers sometimes. I have many regulars that went rogue after a few session. Obsession, mistreatment, stalking, time wasting, drugs ect. Hell in 2019 I was seeing this guy for almost 2yrs who promised me that he would be taking care of me when I go back to school and I wouldn't have to work anymore. I retired for him to ghost me right after I announced it. I spend a good year wondering what I have done Thinking I was a bad provider, my client would laughed at me for believing this ect. I met a few girls years later and learned that he did the same to ALL of them.

Moral of the story: you don't know people really are and being too trusting will only hurt your business. People go rogue all the time and even the people you think would never do that.
