A lot of hush money and compromising is still occurring at this time .

It's an ego thing. They think being smarter about some things make them smarter about ALL things.
Rich people can be notoriously cheap about some things, especially paying people.
It's a boredom thing. When you can have it all, you seek out the taboo.

And quite simply he is a scumbag. We all have it in us, but he has A LOT of it in him. And the means to release it. Once he was compromised, and its readily available, its an addiction. So fuck it, it can't get worse right?
