Even with his limited at bats, I'd have to rank Reed Johnson up there with his average over .370 (agreed that is why he is in the best clutch section since he always seems to be able to produce when he is in the line up)and, considering his miserably slow start, Aaron Hill's current average of around .290 means he's been hitting very well for some time now. (that is why he is also in the SLOW starters category)
For best defensive players, I don't think Catalanotto come close to Vernon Wells. I'd also give Greg Zaun honourable mention. (agree with you in both counts I only picked Reed over Vernom because of some nice diving catches I have seen him made and also some great assists he has made in the outfield throwing runners out, i like his aggresiveness in the field)
I agree the jury's out on A.J. but I think what you see is what you get with Bengie. (I am afraid you may be right with Bengie but here is hoping we are both wrong)
Next to Wells I think Overbay has provided the most consistent production combined offensively and defensively. Though not spectacular he's been just steady. Shows up every game. Decent average and decent power. (his first month of the season was not that great that is why he was placed in the Slow starters category)
