Finns, like most Eoro teams, have absolutely no heart. Once they got behing by 3 or 4 they simply laid down.

I lost all respect for Kiprusoff, as he skated to the bench after allowing the 4th goal. The coach hadn't made a move to replace him, he pulled a Patty Roy.

I thought the same thing but the NHL had about 14 teams by the time the WHA came into existence, not the 6 that Asterix mentioned.

The WHL is a Canadian Major Junior hockey league. WHL = Western Hockey League

No, I meant the WHL. From the 1940's to the early 70's the WHL was a minor pro league, and due to the relatively small NHL (only 6 teams until 1967), the WHL had many excellent players. Some were former NHL players, some were future NHL players, and many were journeymen who stayed with their teams through their entire careers. The NHL expanded in part becuase of fears that the WHL, which had expanded into LA and San Francisco, might become a major league. The NHL expansion killed the WHL which was dismantled, only to reappear a few years later as a Junior league. The game from the 60's when four goals were scored by the same team in just over 1 minute could still be a record for any North American pro league.

The reason I was reminded of all this, is that the way the US team approaches the game is very much like how teams approached it back in the old WHL. Major concentration on teamwork and defense, emphasis on stick handling and moving without the puck, and most of all, guys who knew how to pass and set up their teammates. Do that and sometimes you can score in bunches. The minor pro leagues used to have some of the best hockey I've ever seen.

SMH....you know, it is living under obnoxious pressure like this that is keeping your athletes from "owning the podium". They have to cover the asses of an entire nations' "polite" arrogance instead of just being able to compete for the sake of sport and for wanting to do there best.

Personally, I have no reason to cheer against Canada save for be an American with MY team in the final as well, and would normally assume it would be a "if not me, then I am glad it is you" fraternal relationship / rivalry between the nations.

But when I saw how those "so polite" Canadians booed BOYS during the juniors a couple years ago...BOYS...just because they were Americans...I realized what pricks (some) of you are.

Accordingly, I hope we kick your arrogant fucking heads in, and I will take joy in seeing an entire nation fall into a state of depression. There is one team that has a rep for imploding in the Olympics and it is not the USA. It the is country that was the favorite to win gold in the last 3 Olymmpics and came away with 1 medal during that time.

Versus a particular group of ladies whose post win celebration raised a few eyebrows...none of them American, BTW...

Funny how that is the label all Americans wear when travelling around the world because of a few loudmouths. Not all Americans are arrogant, but those are the ones usually front and centre giving you the bad name.
Likewise, last time I checked, there were over 30 million Canadians in this country, and I'm quite sure they aren't all arrogant.

If we win the gold tomorrow, come Monday, there will be a few high fives and smiles around the water cooler. If we lose, maybe not so many smiles, but we are grown up enough to realize that life goes on.

Maybe next time, the U.S. men's ice hockey professionals should just stay home.

They've certainly done their best to ruin the first Olympic tournament to include National Hockey League players, an international breakthrough for the sport.

After their elimination by the Czech Republic, the Americans capped off a week of questionable conduct and embarrassing play by trashing their quarters in the Olympic Village, U.S. Olympic Committee officials said.

Since the subject of this thread was the 2010 U.S.A. Olympic men's hockey team, why don't we keep our discussion to that team.

So far as I know, they have behaved like gentlemen off the ice, and tough competitors on.

I will be cheering for Canada to win the gold medal tomorrow, but most importantly I want a good game, played with sportsmanship and class. Something sorely lacking by both some Americans and some Canadians in this thread.

1. Canada does own the podium. Canada leads the gold medal count with 12, Germany is second with 10, and the U.S.A. is third, with 9 .
