I'm from NYC and usually go to Montreal. I'd like to switch it up with a trip to Toronto. I'd like to stay somewhere very convenient to the downtown in call locations. I'm considering the Westin on the Harbor. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Also, how much $ for a ride from the airport? Thanks!!!

Out being curious
If the budget allows for it i would suggest le germaine maple leaf sq or something closer to the eaton centre...most locations are near yonge and college or the ACC/fin district...

The harbour castle is a little far from the action

Eaton Chelsea at Yonge and Gerrard
Sheraton Centre at Bay and Queen
Marriott at Bay and Dundas
Bond Place at Yonge and Dundas
Courtyard Marriott at Yonge and Carleton I think

All of these are close to the Eaton Centre and everything downtown.

If you want to be cheap, just take the TTC from the airport to Kipling subway then downtown. Cab will be pricey since you're in the midst of construction season.

I just stayed at the Hilton on Richmond street and do not plan on staying there again. Price and service is outstanding but getting there is such a pain in the ass. One way street with no turns allowed off most streets.
I circled around four times before I finally got onto Richmond. It is probably simple if you know the area but I am from out of town and did not know about all the prohibited turns and the construction at Yonge St. diverting traffic.
Thirty minutes to get from Steeles and Yonge down to Queen Street and another 50 trying to get that last two blocks. Also, it is a bit of a walk to get to the shopping at Yonge/Dundas area.

Harbour Front is a nice hotel. If its not raining its a nice walk to downtown.
One King West is another nice hotel.Rooms come with a mini kitchen and washer/dryer.
King Edward is just down the street from One King West. Both are right downtown.

Yeah, driving is getting worse and worse downtown. A long walk in the nice weather is not such a bad thing since there's usually lots of eye candy along the way.

A hotel thats along the "Path" is always a good way to go.

The King Edward is gorgeous, ask for one of the renovated rooms if you try that one. Much nicer than the Chelsea.

Speaking of eye candy...... as I left the Hilton on Friday afternoon I passed a gorgeous young lady who was wearing a sun-dress down to her ankles. But the slit in it went so far up her leg I was able to see that she was not wearing any panties.
By the smile on her face as she looked at me I could tell that she was aware that I had noticed. What a great beginning to my weekend downtown.

The Toronto Airport Express is $27.95 one way and $42.00 round trip. Public transportation(Bus and Subway) (ttc.ca) is $3.00 each way. Ask for a transfer slip. I recommend the Courtyard Marriott (475 Yonge St.) for combination of price and location.

Eaton Chelsea at Yonge and Gerrard - heavy traffic and lower end, relatively, but not too bad
Sheraton Centre at Bay and Queen - my personal favourite in terms of meeting all needs like location, price, quality
Marriott at Bay and Dundas - nice, but can be VERY expensive relative to room
Bond Place at Yonge and Dundas - decent but tiny rooms, need a key card to use elevator so its a no-go for me
Courtyard Marriott at Yonge and Carlton I think - No. 1 in terms of proximity to agencies. There is also a Holiday Inn basically next door that's not worth what they charge but has what you need.
King Edward is very nice, but I'd look for specials online or the price can get out of hand during the warmer months.
Intercontinental at Front and York ( I think) small, clean, reasonable, basically right next to union station and short walk to a whole host of agencies. About ten minute walk to Eaton Centre

I guess that was worth fighting the one way streets and traffic downtown eh?! :D

TTC runs a bus (route 192 Airport Express) that goes right to Terminal 1 and 3. Just get on the bus that will bring you to Kipling station and then to the subway, which doesn't require a transfer slip.

I'm not fond of this list. Try 1kingwest, Cosmopolitan hotel, Pantages hotel, King Edward, Le Germain on Mercer or Cambridge suites. If you going to go budget try a smaller place like Hotel Ocho or Beverly Hotel over the Sheraton Centre and Eaton Chelsea which are too busy. Expedia should give good rates on booking the hotel. I would avoid Bond Place, Strathcona, Rex hotel or Ramada on Jarvis as well.

The Westin Harbour is too close to the construction area on Queens Quay so steer clear. It's bit off the beaten path.

There are buses from the airport that take you to downtown core for about $25. Option B is the TTC Toronto transit bus that takes you to the subway which will take you downtown for $3 if you really want to pinch pennies. Otherwise a cab will be about $50. There's no issue waiting for ttc bus. The bus zooms along and comes frequently. It is usually full of flight attendants. You have to factor in extra time but the money you save can be spent at an incall. Our city is so rammed with construction that it may be best to avoid the conjestion.

you recommend 1Kingwest but find Sheraton Centre too busy? The rest of your list, sure, but really? That place is a zoo most times and very conspicuous

1kingwest has washer/dryer, kitchen area with microwave, toaster, fridge and hot plate so I don't eat out as much. I have never found it too busy myself where Sheraton Centre feels like a zoo with so much people traffic and hordes of construction out front for a basic room. I also like that 1kingwest is right on the subway line. I also find expedia has great rates for 1kingwest so you can pay 1/2 the price. It does suck that you get gouged on wifi and paying for local calls though.

I guess its different because I'm generally "visiting" a hotel guest as opposed to being one myself, but I like that you can get to the rooms from the concourse/PATH level and avoid the lobby entirely.

You can avoid the lobby from 1kingwest as well. Next time go to concourse and exit/enter from that level at 1kingwest. It has the same set up as at Sheraton Centre where you exit to the PATH. (Learn a new thing every day.) You have to use historical elevator at 1kingwest though but you can avoid the lobby entirely as you can access elevator banks without going to lobby.
