Things that put life in perspective...

Today was one of those `what the f...?` kind of days for me. I guess I`ve been so absorbed with hatred for this stupid Bill C-36, that I didn`t realize that there are some folks among us, who have more serious issues to deal with. Today, for whatever reason, some cupcake decided to take the cowards way out, and jumped off the eighth story of a parking garage in downtown Kingston, (the Chown Garage, across from Hotel Dieu Hospital, for those that know Kingston), in front of dozens of witnesses in mid afternoon. I personally know two ladies who work there. I just hope they didn`t see it...but for me, it kinda puts things in some sort of perspective. Yes, life will really, really suck when this idiotic bill passes. But it`s not that bad! We`ll find a way around this stupid law. Life will continue, there is a new tomorrow....I dunno, I maybe I`m just being philosophical....

You're absolutely right. If the threat of not being able to (legally) pay to get your dick wet is the biggest problem in your life, you've got it pretty good.

I hope we all have civic, social, economic and personal priorities that rank higher than C-36. It doesn't mean that roll over or that we don't do what we can to oppose the bill. But, this single issue isnt going to guide my ballot come election time.

If I follow the letter of the proposed law Bill C-36, it won't affect my professional or family life. My income won't drop and I won't go to prison.

On the other hand, if the Tories make owning guns illegal that would be a different matter.

C-36 is so irrelevant in 99 % of the population.

I think most if not all people are more worried about losing their job, staying healthy, having a happy family life, just waking up in the morning and making it through another day. This bill will have loopholes.

Who knows why this girl jumped.Sad,but that was her way of dealing with life.Maybe she just got some bad health news.

Like Stevieray said....life goes on.Don't sweat the small stuff.

Although we don't know the reason behind the hi diver. How bad was it that this was the only way to find peace!
I had a few friends who checked out this way....hanging and a shotgun blast to the mouth.and the sad thing is none of us saw it coming!

My S/O..attempted Suicide in high school..we rarely talk about it but the few times we did..all she could say was..I thought it was the right thing to do, to deal with what i was dealing with.

Calling it cowardly is old school and it has been discredited. It is not as flippant as a lack of will, which society does not admire. It is a symptom of depression.
FYI Those of a certain age will remember Edward Platt AKA The Chief of Control. He fell into depression over not working and possibly some personal matters, which led to suicide. For years after his next of kin said it was due to a heart attack. Finally, when suicide was no longer stigmatized or shameful, they came clean about his cause of death.

I must admit I've used that phrase myself, because i assume that the person chose to avoid his/her problems that to deal with them. An assumption, yes.

But, frankly, Ive said it out of anger. A selfish anger that the person left me and others behind bewildered, hurt and feeling so much guilt that we didn't reach out, because maybe, just maybe....

Personally, I think it goes deeper than just getting your dick wet. It is an out and out attack on all men and that would make my blood boil. I would be in a slow, simmering rage as a result of my need to protect my anonymity at the expense of not being able to defend myself against being called a pervert. I can't begin to imagine how I would cope given the same circumstances. You have been presumed guilty without a trial. And unfortunately are helpless to defend yourselves. I wish the Ottawa escorts would make a list of the Tory MP's and Senators who have used their services and publish it in the media. Someone desserves a castration.

Why would you vote for a party that with a stroke of a pen has just made a criminal out of you.

If that was your guiding principle, i likely wouldn't be voting at all. The Liberals have and would again make me a criminal in other respects. The NDP would put me in solitary.

I lost my best friend to suicide. Everyone tells me there was nothing I could have said or done that would have stopped it, but I don't think I'll ever really believe that.

I look back and see red flags that I missed, and I'll always wonder how things could have been different if I had seen them.

I also lost a very good friend to suicide. She didn't believe in doctors and wanted to go the natural route although she desperately needed anti-depressants. She had lost 30 pounds on a small frame anyway. She was a brilliant woman and I blamed her for not knowing better for a while. I was so hurt by her loss. If only she had gone the medical route. She kept going to herbalists and homeopathics, throwing gobs of money at althernative medicine-so now I have a resentment toward althernative medicine. Such a waste of a beautiful woman and a beautiful mind. She had an adoring husband and so many friends.

That's exactly what I mean. All the psychobabble in the world would say that it's not our fault and that we wouldn't have made a difference, but that's just not easy to buy into.

I didn't know that gentlemen, but as I reflected on his on-line presence, I can see some red flags too. Some of the stuff he said bothered me when he said it, but in retrospect, it clearly set out his state of mind.

We shouldn't say the jumper was a coward without knowing their story.
It always bothers me when someone uses the phrase, "coward's way out".
Calling it cowardly is old school and it has been discredited.
I'm glad some of you have addressed this already. I've known a few people who have lived miserable existences, and I can't imagine the agony they've had to put up with (for years!). Then to be labelled a coward for not "facing their problems" by people who have never faced such insurmountable troubles.... Kind of like kicking them while they're down.

You think diving off a building so that every bone in your body is shattered or throwing yourself onto a subway track so that your body can be torn to shreds is a cowardly act?
Its an act of someone in deep pain that sees no end or way out. How great must the pain one feels be so that they would chose those ways to die rather than live?

It doesn't make sense to me that someone would use that phrase.

I do?? I don't know about that... Once C-36 passes, it will be back to the Sears catalogue for me... lol :thumb:
