Thanks. Your neighbourhood sounds more exciting than mine. So if I read you aright, the CCTV cameras have certainly assisted better response to bad stuff nearby, and perhaps deterred (though who can say) some bad stuff at home, but no occurrences were detected and prevented in progress on-site.

I have been in my area for 20 years so over time, shit is going to happen at some point. LOL But people learn quick not to do things around here.

As far as preventing an in-progress onsite issues, can't say I have had one come up while I had my system. I have CCTV cameras outside and home monitoring inside.

I think the best and by far the cheapest security is to buy a few plastic flamingos for your front lawn. Any would be robber would not bother. They would go next door.

See post No. 8 above, Point No. 2

Wireless is a joke and anyone who buys the BS from the salesman gets what they deserve.

No alarm system is foolproof, however, some are far superior. Ask any alarm technician (the real kind, not the installer from Rogers kind) and they will tell you hard wired always.

What do you mean by hard-wired?? You mean no connection to a phoneline or internet, and just an alarm that makes a very loud noise when triggered?

No, I mean every single alarm device (control panel, key pad, door sensors, glass break sensors, motion sensors, window pins, cameras, smoke detectors, pressure sensors, etc etc.) has an old school phone wire that home runs to the main alarm panel. The main panel connects to the land line with a cellular back up. It is not possible to arm, disarm, or monitor on any smart phone, or with a key fob. You set it when you leave with the key pad, and disarm it when you get home.

In short, it's not operating wirelessly in any manner. Everything has a wire.

Same with home computer networks, or televisions - everything is hugely superior (performance wise) when hard wired.

I'm curious whether any of you has been 'saved/protected' by your system in an actual incident or incursion, and how.
Many systems (esp. two way) also provide emergency medical response. My system has that and I do like the two-way voice aspect, especially in a legit emergency.

Here is the thing though. The average B+E type of criminal is NOT going to be tech savvy. Probably a kid without computer skills or involved in drugs. And all you reaaly want is for an alarm to go off and scare the shit out of them and/or get some pictures. As well as alert the homeowner.

So while for a commercial or high value target is makes sense to have all the bells and whistles, wireless can be a good deterrent.

It's definitely better then nothing.

When you were younger and even in your early adulthood not too long ago, when you went into a restaurant and ordered a meal they made it for you while you waited. Then fast food took over. The same thing has happened to the security systems industry. Now the alarm systems they are selling are mostly wireless and a guy comes over and sticky tapes it to your wall, some companies even send you a box by Fedex and you sticky tape it to your walls. Sure it is better than nothing, but is is not the best choice.
