Due to reasons beyond my control I’m still connected to a land line, which seems to getting more expensive per year. Can anyone comment on what provider gives the best value VOIP home phone

I still use a landline (unlike cellphones) for business calls because they are almost impossible to hack.

I used Ooma for a while and it was (at the time) the best deal. You could port your existing phone number over as well. It was a VOIP line and about $3.95 a month.

I had a barebones home phone, Bell. It was $24? $25?/month, all in.
Finally got rid of it after tracking for 3 months, I'd used it 9-10 times total.
No features, rang if someone called in, normal calls out.
I used my cell for long distance, a CiCi card for overseas calls.

That must of been a long time ago. Basic bell home phone is $50/month now. And it keeps going up.

I finally cancelled and got Ooma. Works beautifully. Buy the ooma box for $110 and plug it into a router.

I used Vonage International about 5 years ago when I had to make a lot of international calls and it was good for me. Used it instead of a regular land line and didn't miss it. Funny story - had a Bell land line for 3 years as part of a Fibe package before I cut the cord. I never gave out the number, yet it rang several times a week and never left a voice message. Finally muted the phone and turned off the voice mail. Figured since I never gave out the number, I shouldn't be getting any calls.

Thanks guys, I’ve been looking at Ooma , can’t wait to cancel my $60 Rogers home phone. I recently switched from their crappy internet to Bell fibre, wow what a difference monthly cost was the same

Something to checkout if you decide to go with either Ooma or Magic Jack:

Not sure if it help. But I pay $100 after tax for bell gigabit internet and they gives me free basic tv and landlines. If I remember correctly, they offer free landline with almost all internet. Doesn't hurt to ask
