all the lying movies on that list either were nominated for or got academy awards

the worse one is U-571 which claims the Americans captured the enigma from a german sub

It was the British who did it and it was not the U-571

The U-boat 110 had been forced to surface after depth charging by the British, the crew had abandoned ship believing that the U-boat was already sinking. The surviving crew were rescued and quickly taken below decks so that they would not be aware that the boat was to be boarded. The commander of the sub shot as he attempted to swim back to the sub to sink her.

I find that Star Wars gets a lot of historical events wrong too. Yoda was actually more pink than green.

First of all, I have no interest in seeing any of those films. Secondly, you'd expect someone doing a piece on the accuracy of movies wouldn't use the same picture of Mel Gibson for both Braveheart and The Patriot. Just sayin'.

One of Hollywood's guiding principles is, don't ever let the facts get in the way of a good story. Who has seen Argo? http://screenrant.com/argo-movie-facts-fiction-true-story-differences/

It won Best Picture in 2012.

Don't ever forget, the job of a movie studio is to get butts in seats and to make money doing it.
Tony Mendez's comment on the airport scene at the end of the movie, was to the effect that part of doing my job right is that there were no scenes, no suspicion. They actually had tickets on two different flights (in case they missed the first one), there was no chase scene whatsoever, they calmly went through all the check points without even a second glance. Boarded the aircraft and calmly flew away. But that would have been the worlds most anticlimactic movie.

How about the latest piece of naked propagnda from Hollywood, Fury.

Apparently a Sherman tank can take a direct hit from a German Tiger with the fearsome 88mm Flak gun and still keep going.

The so-called exposure of Hollywood's lies is pretty dubious. Take #1 for example. Commodus may not have killed his father, but he was a notorious sociopath and, yes, creep. One of his favourite tricks was to feed his guests pies filled with faeces and watch while they forced themselves to swallow. And while he did, indeed, die in his "bathtub", that was because he was assassinated there by 1 of his gladiators.

Again #3, the Mayans may have been an advanced civilization, but they were also pretty damn mean and the movie always struck me as accurate.

And re #7, does anyone really care that the film used P-40 fighters instead of the more obscure P-36's? Even if the P-40 wasn't available for another 3 months?

As for #9, I agree. Every Brit I know was BLOODY WELL pissed off that the Americans gave themselves the credit for something the British armed forces achieved.

And the 2 Mel Gibson movies are total historical garbage. No question about that.

tombstone got a lot wrong

here the earp gang is heading to ok corral for shootout

actually, they cleverly hid behind the dust of a speeding wagon

now why would any one risk their lives in a straight up shoot out ????

that old west machismo is nonsense

also, some argue the outlaws were not the only bad guys, the Earps were just as bad as they fought over control of the town and the rich contracts that would be given to the powerful

Sometimes I wonder if Hollywood is a mouthpiece for CIA. Americans win the wars in the movies what they haven't been able to win in real life. Remember seeing the second world war movies. Hundreds of German soldiers dying while even one American is not injured. True the allied forces eventually defeated the Nazis but it was Russians and their extreme cold weather which did it not the a few hundred thousand Americans though yes it was American money which played a role too but over 20 million Russians died. Hollywood invented the history.

Another example the Movie 300. A total fabrication of history when in the movie the great and powerful Persian Empire with several hundred thousand heavily armed well trained soldiers invaded and some 300 Spartans defeated them. This never happened but Hollywood made a big profit by fabricating and inventing history because in reality Americans were defeated and humiliated by what replaced the what used to be called Persian Empire (called Iran these days which actually Iran stands for land of Aryans). Dream on Hollywood. And to Americans if making movies and defeating your enemy in fictitious movies makes you a superpower while in reality you suffer casualties and defeated, so be it. Dream on.
The 300 Spartans has been a well known war story for many, many years. I saw the first Hollywood movie about them, "300 Spartans" when I was about 5 years old and it changed my life. Ever since, I've been obsessed with history.

The story is true, even if the modern movie is ridiculous. A small group of volunteers from various Greek cities - about 7,000 in all - were led by 300 Spartan elite soldiers. They fortified a mountain pass in Central Greece that the Persian invaders had to travel through to conquer and sack Athens and the other major Greek centres. Every day, one of the contingents from each of the city states would take its turn to guard the pass. As the Greeks were well armoured and trained in close fighting and the far more numerous Persians were unarmoured and trained as archers and javelin men, the Greeks absolutely slew their adversaries while taking few casualties themselves. And so it went for over a week. Then a local betrayed the defenders by showing the Persians a goat track around the mountain whereby they could avoid the pass in return for a fortune in gold. The Persians took the goat track.

Most of the Greeks withdrew in enough time to avoid being cut off and slaughtered. The Spartans refused to retreat and simply stood on a slight rise and defied the Persian army. They fought all day until they were cut down and killed. Only 1 Spartan ran away and saved himself and he was treated like dirt by his people forever after. It's one of the great legends of the Greek nation.

Good corrections! So I guess the takeaway would be to take Hollywood "historical" films, and online articles without sourcing, with a grain of salt lol.
Its all about Drama, action, suspense and special effects, my dear. Otherwise, the true stories would be terribly boring on screen.

My point - these are movies and their success of a movie is measured by ticket sales. Argo was sad in that they went out of their way to suggest the Canadian government was willing to take unearned credit for a purely US operation and their comments at the end of the movie I thought was demeaning for a country that did so much for an ally.

The U-571 did redeem itself although very slightly, the closing credits actually did state it was the Brits that actually captured the decoder machine. Another WW2 that isnt on the list is Enemy At The Gates, the 2 sniper dudes did exist but the German dude Konig was supposedly nowhere near Stalingrad during the war as the duel between the 2 was pure Soviet fantasy propaganda.

Ben Affleck is an asshole, the CIA came this close to fubaring the whole operation. Ken Taylor had to hustle to get them cover. The Iranians would have summarily executed them.

Before you go out and spend money on Fury, allow me to show you what an 88mm can do to a Sherman.
