I think hockey is the most exciting sport in the world... but baseball wins for a simple reason: they have a great playoff system.

The hockey regular season is near meaningless and the best of 7 series go on way too long. They do it to milk more money out of the fans, at the expense of excitement.

I would say Baseball has higher highs and lower lows than hockey. If a great hockey series is an 8/10 for excitement a great baseball series will have sometimes where it is a 4/10 and sometimes when it is a 10/10.

Great points, but they both suffer from the fact that by mid-season, a good number of the teams already know they're not going to make the playoffs. This works particularly against baseball because so few make the playoffs after such a high number of games during the season.

This argument presumes that only point of watching sports is to see your team win a championship and it's all a waste of time if they don't. I thoroughly enjoy watching baseball for its own sake. Sure, its a little more fun and exciting when the stakes are high but even if my team is more or less out of it by mid-season I'll keep watching and I'll be disappointed when the season ends.

The same applies to hockey but I've been watching baseball longer so the attachment is a little stronger.

I like playing hockey, I don't really care for watching it. It's all puck cycling these days and too efficient defense. And they took hitting out of the game. I put a game on when I have trouble falling asleep. Sort of like NASCAR or F1. I don't find baseball particularly exciting, but it is interesting and entertaining-especially in HD.
