Great points, but they both suffer from the fact that by mid-season, a good number of the teams already know they're not going to make the playoffs. This works particularly against baseball because so few make the playoffs after such a high number of games during the season.I think hockey is the most exciting sport in the world... but baseball wins for a simple reason: they have a great playoff system.
The hockey regular season is near meaningless and the best of 7 series go on way too long. They do it to milk more money out of the fans, at the expense of excitement.
This argument presumes that only point of watching sports is to see your team win a championship and it's all a waste of time if they don't. I thoroughly enjoy watching baseball for its own sake.
