Is it true that Samsung make the best HD TV? I am thinking of something in the 30" to 40" range. Heard that the Samsung 40" model number LN40A530 is an excellent set. Any advice?

"Best" is very subjective.

What you can do is go to Future Shop, and look at all the screens to judge for yourself.

Actually, Samsungs are very good TVs and usually priced accordingly (more expensive).

However, as I understand it, Sony Bravias cost even more, and could be considered the best.

Interesting but true, I bought the cheapest brand that supports 1080p and I am very happy with the lcd so far. If your real picky I guess you might spot a difference but i watch HD channels all the time and it is great.

47" Insignia - $899

I also have a Sharp Aquos 32" and I don't see much difference in the quality. I use the 32" as a Computer monitor as well.

Time will tell I guess...

Pioneer plasmas are widely considered to be the best in terms of picture quality. However, there are other factors to consider - overall brightness, weight, power consumption - all of which plasmas are not good at.

I heard that plasmas burn out (i.e. they die) quickly. True?

They last pretty long.

I own 4, the oldest being a 2004 mid range lg. Ive never had an isssue with any of them. In fact my sons use the lg for gaming and have never had a problem (burn in, over heating etc) despite the fact that they leave it on for days with a static image (xbox logo) displayed.

Would highly recommend Plasma...only draw back is they use more energy than lcd.

Is a PC connection port standard on all HD TV's? Or, do you have to check each specific model?
Alwasy safer to check for the vga port cuz they may not all have one but I think most do these days. I use DVI->HDMI port not vga and all LCDs have these. Only way to get native resolution is to use HDMI.

they are mostly a us brand, I got mine at AG computers for 445$ it was a great buy. You can find more info about them on their website.

They also go by the name Priva and Soyo.

I think I can get a Samsung for the same price. I was shopping around yesterday and the discounting among the retailers is brutal. (Why can't dancers do the same discounting. Hint, hint.)

Depends who you speak to but I was told go with Samsung or Panasonic. This whole HD TV thing is so confusing. Since I am currently "between projects" and have time but no money, I thought I would spend my time watching HD TV.

The best TVs for watching live sports are plasmas.

LCD TVs have 120Hz refresh rate and Plasmas have 480Hz.

Someone else might explain it better.

It has to do with the blur behind a fast moving object on the screen.

The higher the refresh rate the sharper the picture.

Wow! This is a real learning experience. I got some gift certificates from my last project that are redeemable only for goods (not cash) so I thought I'll buy an HD TV.

Many HD tv's have 60 hz refresh, 120hz is an upgrade, so be careful. The faster the refresh, the less ghosting.

Planning to buy a LCD TV.....
Actually had a thread in this section asking for advice...

I download my TV shows and watch it through my TV....Also plan to use it for Video Game Playing...

Another factor is that I don't have cable or satellite and plan to just try to use the Digital Tuner in replace of my analog Antennae...Apparently all HD TVs have a built in Tuner and can get the signal without an additional antennae or converter box....

I have narrowed my choices to either a Sony Bravia or Sharp Aquos....
Sony Bravia is supposed to be the best but it also is the more expensive TV (but who knows now with the prices dropping so fast)....

Have heard a lot of good things about the Sharp Aquos and Samsung....
Talked to a buddy who works at Best Buy and he said that Sharp Aquos has had less return problems in comparison to Samsung....but both are top rated TVs...

A saleman told me that the Sony is a Sony in name only. Apparently, everything in a Sony is made by other companies. Did somebody say that Sony charges an outrageous price for some kind of cable?
