It was a rhetorical question. Let's say, as some suggest, we send in a mental health professional or social worker. As soon as they see that fuckin knife, you best believe they are gonna call the fuckin police!
you have a couple armed cops there, but have a trained social worker lead the operation and maybe bring a relative of the guy to offer familiarity and translation.....was that so hard? And if they did that the guy would probably be alive today.

Clearly you have something against black people. Not sure how they enter this discussion. I'm sure you saw the family members and the community blocking traffic and protesting today.

But here you are fixated on black people and BLM.
Negative brother......
Oh I see, would you feel better if he instead said:

"You have something against certain black people and those certain black people who represent those certain black people"?

There are so many unknown details about this case yet it's murder? This one's not cut and dry li

In my humble opinion, I would never put unarmed civilians at risk. Ever. I want to have some compassion but unfortunately when you get mentally unstable people with weapons in hand, sometimes they will die. That's just the life cycle playing out.

And 90% of social workers and trainees will quit, rather than go near an armed lunatic.

The Police work with a team that is dedicated to handling mental distress calls. There's also many officers who are trained to handle such situations. Although, like the specialized team, there's not enough of them.

The one thing we don't hear about is the number of calls that are resolved without incident. In fact, the Toronto Police Service responds to over 30,000 calls to people in crisis annually. That's more than 85 every day, 365 days a year. While it's unfortunate when a situation goes wrong and we must learn to do things better, thankfully the vast majority of police do a good job. Only the bad ones make the news.

Or, they would call the police because they didn't feel safe. In this particular case, the family did not call police, It was EMS who called police because they didn't feel safe.

Social Workers (MSW) do not have the training to deal with people experiencing psychotic episodes.

This was a murder plain and simple, even if he had a gun.

This is not the first time police had to deal with a barricaded individual.

Because he was an old man and they were not afraid to get shot. They probably thought the Taser and bean bag or rubber shots would do the trick, well they fucked up large and at the very least this one is manslaughter, unless the victim fired the gun first leaving police no option but to enter. However, we know that was not the case because the Peel Police force would have told us by now.

This is Murder and I hope I'll see all of you at the peaceful civil disobedience protest.... This Shit has got to stop, for the Good Cops and the safety of our communities.

You know fuck all

Except he didn't according to the police. The only gun collected on site was the one used by the police. He did have a knife but that wasn't a threat to police out on the balcony.

The real question is who was making the decisions to enter the apartment and whether they had exhausted all other options. Common sense says that they had no need to immediately enter the apartment so the death was very avoidable.

You don't know the facts so your comment about common sense holds no merit.

The facts we have are enough to know.....

Imagine this,

Government passes a law against suicides.

police see a male about to jump of a bridge to kill himself.

police show up, they tell the man to stop and that he is under arrest.

he tells them to fuck off, he is killing himself.

police know they cant approach because he can grab then and take them with him, but he most be apprehended, he is breaking the law.

so one takes out his gun and will shoot if he tries to hold on to his partner.

sure enough the guy tries to grab the cop, so they shoot and kill him.

Could they not have taken a different approach??

Now change that story to a Mentally ill person, who can only harm himself as long as no one enters. The door had to be kicked in, he wasn't trying to get out, he was trying to keep people from getting in.....

[/QUOTE]

I heard the video and one cop yelling 'Drop the knife' presumably another cop, yelled 'Drop the gun', which may have been due to misidentification or adrenaline/stress related mis-vocalization.
If you are trying to suggest the cops planted a gun I would suggest you watch too many badcop movies.
I find it highly unlikely that a 60 year old schizophrenic has the wherewithal to purchase a handgun, or to have someone he knows do it for him.
