So if the police are defunded, who would go in to solve this problem?
These issues won't go away because people are woked in the last month. Bad guys are still going to carry guns and commit crimes. They might get shot. Some will resist arrest and abuse cops and put lives at risk. They will get shot. So this guy had a weapon and was a nut case and off his meds. He got shot.

Until people take personal responsibility for themselves/family members etc., shootings are going to happen.

If the guy identified as nephew is telling the truth, these cops need to answer for this.

It was a rhetorical question. Let's say, as some suggest, we send in a mental health professional or social worker. As soon as they see that fuckin knife, you best believe they are gonna call the fuckin police!

This guy was a frail 62 year old, he didn't need to be shot.

This video shows the officers screaming put the gun down, put the gun down put it down...

Are cops not allowed to defend themselves when their life is being threatened when a gun is pointed at them? It also sounds like there was a shot first that sounds different then the officers shot. Also what’s a guy with schizophrenia doing with guns anyways? How is this legal owning guns with a serious mental condition like that?

How about instead of a groups of cops, a social worker goes with a cops to calls involving mental health crisis?

Have them do that in your fucking community, not mine. I don't want some crazy person with a gun in my building waiting to go off like a ticking time bomb while the police are stuck waiting for a fucking social worker to show up.

This was a murder plain and simple, even if he had a gun.

This is not the first time police had to deal with a barricaded individual.

Because he was an old man and they were not afraid to get shot. They probably thought the Taser and bean bag or rubber shots would do the trick, well they fucked up large and at the very least this one is manslaughter, unless the victim fired the gun first leaving police no option but to enter. However, we know that was not the case because the Peel Police force would have told us by now.

This is Murder and I hope I'll see all of you at the peaceful civil disobedience protest.... This Shit has got to stop, for the Good Cops and the safety of our communities.

Please clarify, are you suggesting cops can only shoot if the suspect shoots first?

Police can only shoot to stop a threat to life or stop serious harm. While he was barricaded and the threat was contain, there was no legal justification for the police to go in.

Police can not be the ones that escalated this situation, in this case the victim was responding to their aggressive action. Also, it appears he only had a knife. If he tried to kill himself, police can't shoot him. Their job is to preserve life....

"Investigators have collected a police-issued firearm, a knife, a conducted energy weapon, and an Anti Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) from the scene."(cp24)

What was the rush for police to enter? That's what charges they face will depend on it.

And why did his family call the police? Couldn't they have disarmed the frail old man themselves, or talked him into disarming? No, they didn't want to go anywhere near him and his knife. Who want's the the job of disarming armed mentally unstable people?

Apparently, the man didn't speak English. Steve Ryan clarified one point. The police cannot allow a civilian to be in harm's way. That means no social worker, no interpreter, no family members, no BLM, no liberal lefties, etc.

Again, until the fact are released, we can only speculate. I'm not going to guess as to what the Police should've or shouldn't have done. They need body cameras NOW!

The man only had a knife guys, that is all he had. The only person he was a danger to was himself.

There was no need for police to enter before other alternatives were given a chance. There is also a precedent, remember the Greyhound Murder in Manitoba, that one was a worse situation.

When we saw the Atlanta police officer charge for acting according to his training, we could all see that it was a horrible situation, but the police hand was forced in that case.

In this case from what has been released, this guys fucked up large....

According to witnesses, McLean was sleeping with his headphones on when the man sitting next to him suddenly produced a large knife and began stabbing McLean in the neck and chest. After the attack began, the bus driver pulled to the side of the road, and he and all the other passengers fled the vehicle. The driver and two other men made an attempt to rescue McLean, but were chased away by Li, who slashed at them from behind the locked bus doors. Li ultimately decapitated McLean and displayed his severed head to those standing outside the bus, then returned to McLean's body and began severing other parts and consuming some of McLean's flesh.

At 8:30 p.m., the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Portage la Prairie received a report of a stabbing on a Greyhound bus west of the city. They arrived to find the suspect still on board the bus, being prevented from escaping by another passenger, the bus driver, and a truck driver who had provided a crowbar and a hammer as weapons. The other passengers were huddled at the roadside, some of them crying and vomiting. As the suspect had earlier attempted to escape by driving the bus away, the driver had engaged the emergency immobiliser system, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Witnesses had observed the suspect stabbing and cutting McLean's body, and carrying McLean's severed head.[9]

By 9:00 p.m., police were in a standoff with the suspect and had summoned special negotiators and a heavily armed tactical unit. The suspect alternately paced the length of the bus and defiled the corpse. Police officers then observed Li eating parts of the body.[7] Meanwhile, the stranded passengers were transported from the scene to be interviewed at the Brandon RCMP detachment.[9] RCMP officers reportedly heard Li say, "I have to stay on the bus forever."[7]

On July 31, 2008, at 1:30 a.m., the suspect attempted to escape from the bus by breaking through a window. The RCMP arrested Li soon afterward.[8][10] He was shot with a Taser twice, handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser. Parts of the victim's body, placed in plastic bags, were retrieved from the bus, while his ear, nose and tongue were found in Li's pockets. The victim's eyes and a part of his heart were never recovered and are presumed to have been eaten by Li.[11]

At 10:00 a.m., Greyhound representatives took the other passengers to a local store to replace their clothes, which remained on the bus. They arrived in Winnipeg at 3:30 p.m. that day, to be reunited with family members and friends.[9]
