Led Zeppelin was a Heavy Blues band who took most of their early music from Willie Dixon. Black Sabbath is the first Heavy Metal band.

I would agree on both counts but many bands were influenced by Led Zep too.

I know that Led Zep didn't originally credit Willie Dixon but what about this song which is so obvious? Other Willie Dixon songs a la Led Zep didn't sound so similar.

Awesome performance, and the look on Jimmy Page's face just said it all... they nailed it.

Led Zeppelin is a run down band. Who cares.

What I want to know is, will Rush perform at their induction into the RockNRoll Hall of Fame?
Ahhhmmmm, how do I say this without being misinterpreted or hurt your feelings:

ARE YOU FUCKIN' NUTS!!!

Zep has been around longer than Rush so kinda of old now, but in their prime Zep was the best hard rock, live bands of their time. My fav, and probably still their anthem song:

Don't get me wrong, I love Rush, Geddy grew up in the Bathurst and Steeles area and went to high school near me, but didn't finish because the band started to take off, they did the high school circuit, played my high school a few times and we had an awesome guitar player in our school as well who jammed with Hendrix, and Rush played some bars in southern Ontario as well. He loved Zep and really respected their music and talents.

Most rankings rate Stairway to Heaven the best rock n roll song of all time. Awe inspiring song.
I don't know about you kids out there, but two songs were great for slow dances in high school or house parties with that attractive girl - Stairway To Heaven or Hey Jude (gosh, I'm not that old).

Zepparella is almost a great Zep cover band. They just need to find a proper lead singer......

The link above has the best vocalist to date and that is not even the current line-up.

I saw a Led Zep tribute band/show at The Sony Centre a few years ago. It think they were called Dazed & Confused. They were fantastic. The singer was like a young Robert Plant.

Led Zeppelin IV was the first LD album without any of Willie Dixon's music in it. Prior to that they plagiarized liberally; Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love and Since I've Been Loving You are just a few of the examples. What I found most revolting about the royalties issue was the redneck, racists jokes Q107 would make against Willie Dixon.

To anyone 40+, Stairway to Heaven is considered the ultimate rock song. To a generation younger than that it has fallen off, most of the time to this song:

Heart has covered quite a few Led Zeppelin songs throughout the years including Stairway to Heaven, Rock and Roll, Misty Mountain Hop, Immigrant song, Black Dog, and if I'm not mistaken - Going To California. Re: the latest version of Stairway to Heaven @ the Kennedy Center, Heart took it to a whole new level and hit it out of the park. It was totally amazing and mind blowing !!! Rock and Roll doesn't get any better than that !

there have been lots of awesome guitarists come out of England ....it is silly to rank them in order of talent. They are all icons of rock. Page, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Richards, Steve Howe, Robert Fripp, Robin Trower, Pete Townsend, Alvin Lee, Brian May, Mark Knopfler, Ritchie Blackmore, and of course Eric Clapton please! ALL GREAT and ALL DIFFERENT

I have the book about Zeppelin titled Hammer of the Gods, a combination biography and documentation of their life in and out of the band and all the shenanigans in between, written by a writer who was invited to tour with them and write their true story. It was an interesting read to say the least.

No surprise Heart did a great job. I forget which Wilson is the lead singer but she has great pipes.

To me Heart is a somewhat overlooked band from the 70s. That's not to say they haven't been acknowledged.

Anyways, as for LZ I think they are great. Sure they ripped off some blues but there's been a long history of taking older music as new. To me they are one of the best hard rock bands and more importantly are one of the stepping stones to my favourite genre HEAVY METAL!

For the guy who posted Enter Sandman...... shame on you. Metallica's Stairway could be a number of songs but Sandman is certainly not it. Maybe in terms of being well known sure but to me I'd look at a longer more complex song...... so soemthing like One is a better analogy.....also well known, starts out slow, then rocks out. Stuff like Sanitarium, For Whone the Bells Toll, Fade to Black, Master of Puppets are other better choices for songs that demonstrate Metallica's prowess. By the time the Black album hits..... they have been popularized, dumbed down by Bob Rock to be more accessible to a larger audience. Everything after the black album is shit. The black album is okay as unforgotten and nothing else matters are great songs.

Watching the documentary where Metallica is in therapy and the fucked up relationship they have with each other, the therapist and bob rock was depressing.

You're talking about "Some kind of Monster" and I loved that movie for all the reasons (and more) that you mentioned.

I know early Metallica very well, Enter Sandman wasn't my pick. It got the No.1 spot from CFNY's Labour Day Weekend countdown.

If I was picking for CFNY this would be No.1.
