I don't think the reason for the party being suspended/cancelled/whatever is quite serious enough to warrant this level of secrecy. Hell, if people were not afraid of possible police surveillence and interference before this, I don't understand this new level of fear and paranoia. I think Trelew is right in that if you are going to be this hush-hush, you're essentially making a party for select friends and not TERB in general anymore (which of course defeats the purpose for most of us).

How amusing.....you *do* realize that the proposed new formats for the Hamilton TERB party (based on privacy and discretion) is just what had been proposed in the first place but were shouted down as being outlandish and unnecessary precautions? If only some people had listened back then instead of having to learn the hard way.....well, things would still be a go for September 9th without a moment of interruption or confusion.

I didn't want to have to say "We told you so" but since some people have decided to be asses about it:

We told you so.

Don't get pissy with some of us because we saw it months ago. Be pissy with those who blindly fell into the situation things are in now.

Oh, and since people have finally come around to doing things right for once, I'd be willing to help in any way as well.

You really do have the blinders on my friend.. The "proposed new formats" are not "(based on privacy and discrection)". They are, in fact , the way the guest list will be controlled. At one time everyone was welcome at a Hamilton Terb Party, sadly times have changed.
I have never been asked to, nor is it likely if asked, I ever would be one, to make up a guest list, however, my advice to you, from reading your posts "Don't hold your breath waiting for your offer to "help in any way" , "since people have finally come around to doing things right for once." Your type of paranoid posting and behavior is just really annoying BS

So what you are suggesting is that I would make a guest list, have someone at the door, if they are on the guest list let them in. Considering I've met maybe 20% of the people that post here at parties this suggestion seems problematic at best. Also who do I let in and who doesn't get in. Last I checked the Sept 9th party seemed to have been cancelled and there was interest in having a party but not at a SC. So we manage to get one going at a bar for Halloween. What is the problem?

Pallydin: You telling people "I told you so" is both meaningless and arrogant...this kind of crap is why I haven't had any interest in attending parties in the past. I was actually considering going to this one, but seeing how this thread has been hijacked, I can't tell whether it's going to be Sept. 9 or Halloween now. If whoever is now organizing this wants help with it, PM me...

Since that big brick of obviousness that slammed into your head seems not to have fazed you in the least, I will point out that a guest list is the one way to ensure both privacy and discretion due to there being nobody allowed but those on the list. How exactly would a guest list be anything but that? And did you *seriously* not see that?

Of course, it seems to be becoming the case that this guest list might shape up to be more of a clique exercise and less a means of security but I guess time will tell if Trelew or I get invited. A party of this nature was exactly what I had proposed in the first place.

Well, the "few days" Gentle Ben had requested to get things back on track *have* passed now, so I don't see what problem people could have with the Halloween party at this stage. I think people are mad the ball was dropped with a party that was supposed to be "rain or shine, flames or no flames,6 people or 60, the party is going to happen" and now some want to take it out on someone else instead of admitting they didn't consider everything (or even the obvious).

In my opinion, there will be *something* going on this September 9th but it will likely be Corena's intimate gathering instead of a full-blown party.

Having a "guest list" for security purposes sounds fine and dandy but what about people (hobbyists and providers) who only at last minute will know if they will make it or not?

That's an easy one: people should be encouraged to sign up for the guest list as a "maybe" (and the guest list should be broken into "expected" and "maybe" for this very reason) and then it doesn't matter if they show up but they can if they find the time (while not skewing the numbers for expected guests). My concern would be for those who lurk without a handle to be used on a guest list or people brought by others from outside the online community (hobbyist or provider).

Given the nature of the problem trying to be avoided, perhaps it would be better to arrange an exclusion list? Surely there is someone you could put near the door who can visually identify the rabble to have them left out?

Funny.....I don't ever recall either myself or Trelew leaving TERB. I personally found GTAC to be an amusing read and I saw some posts of Trelew's over there but I think you'll find most people on TERB did (although some refused to admit it).

I've posted on both boards as well as other forums that are out there. Of course I'm not the only one as you will see the veteran posters on all of the forums.
