Boy does Steve Nash seem to be underrated in this thread. The guy won back to back league MVPs, as it stands that is one more than Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett. Heck, even Charles Barkley holds just one MVP. John Stockton in going to the Hall of Fame for sure, and how many championship rings does he have...none...how many MVPs.....none.
I can't think about another more underrated player, but oh yeah, a punk like Iverson who has spent time in prison might go to the HOF is a joke.
If I had a vote, I'd surely give it to Nash. I think the reason that he get 'less' love here is that he kinda came into the league with no fanfare, emerged on a Mavs team where it was not clear if he made them better or if they made him better, and therefore has only recently been given the individual praise that he has really deserved for years.

What does the fact that someone has spent time in prison have to do with whether they should be in the N.B.A. Hall of Fame? The two things have nothing to do with each other, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Good Citizenship. It's what you do on the hardwood that counts, not off the court. (that's what should matter anyway)

Hell, if Allen Iverson was on my team, he wouldn't even have to come to practice.

As an offensive player I like STeve Nash and he definitely raises the level of his play of his teammates and makes those around him better. The fact that he won 2 league MVPs and was very close to winning a 3rd makes me think that he will get in. My only knock on Steve Nash is that he is a lousy defensive player and there is no exaggeration in that. If he were average defensively I would say so but he is not even average defensively. That being said Larry Bird to the best of my recollection (I am only 30 and started watching basketball around the time the Pistons were winning their championships so I didnt witness all of Birds career) was also a pretty marginal defensive player so I guess being a bad defensive player should not keep Nash out of the HOF. He turned a 60-loss team into a 60-win team. Cant argue with his impact.

Nash and Iverson should make it into the Hall. Neither Nash or Iverson are not very good defensively either but they will probably be in the Hall.

pencilneckgeek2 is right on the money. Iverson is the toughest player pound for pound in the league and it doesn't matter what he does off the court. His game is unbelievable.

At least half of the players in the NFL would not ever even have a chance if it was based on their personality.

Very true, Deion Sanders was a great cover-corner but he was not a complete-corner. Deion didnt have half the toughness that Iverson did. I recall Deion questioning LT's toughness for taking himself out of the playoff game last year. Thats funny, a corner that was reluctant to tackle questioning the toughness of a RB. Some of these WRs today are also just into catching balls and scoring TDs as opposed to blocking. Guys like Keyshawn Johnson (ret.) and Muhsin Muhammed and Hines Ward epitomize what it means to be a football player. And although most of us could do without T.O's antics I do give him credit for being a very good downfield blocker in the run-game.

It seems too me that Basketball Hall of Fame is a hard Fame to get into ...

...it has been called the hardest.

Not so much right now off the top of my head, but for quite awhile there were some GREAT players not in the Hall...primarily because they never won championships. Guys like Dominque Wilkins.

Dwight Howard only 22 years old and already has 5250 rebounds ... To put it into perspective Bosh 24 years old and has 3,356 rebounds .... Andrea Bargnani 23 years old has 586 rebounds
Howard has not missed a game in his career.

I know there are different eras but Wil Chamberlain and Bill Russell were amazing back in the day.

Howard is the best rebounder in the game today. Bar none.

You look at his body frame and you see somebody who takes care of his body ...
Most basketball players are in great shape but he does take great care of himself. Hence the nickname "Superman".

Whats scary is that D.Howard is such a good player despite not having a good jump-shot. I think he should take a page out of Stoudamire's book and work on that and he can become unstoppable. During his recovery from microfracture surgery a couple years ago Stoudamire spent countless hours in the gym working on his jump shot and now there is just no defense for him, if the defense plays off he hits the J, if the defense plays up on him he beats them off the dribble. If Dwight can get a consistent jump shot he will be even scarier than he is right now.

You forgot to add in free throw shooting. :)

Last night Chris Paul gets 3 steals and surpasses Alvin Robertson ...

For those that watched the game last night, were you surprised that in transition it was more a methodical push from CP3 as opposed to a hard push. He wasnt really pushing the ball up the floor hard , instead, more often than not he was allowing the Spurs defense to get set , I found this surprising because Byron Scott had told Heather Cox during the interview that he felt it was important that the Hornets push the ball really hard up the floor.

I watched that game and it was a good game. Funny though that Rasul Butler almost got the record-breaking steal but he moved away from the ball so that Paul could grab the loose ball and get the Steal for himself. This game was game 2 of the ESPN doubleheader last night. David West hit a couple of big 3 balls down the stretch of that game. Honestly the Spurs had a lot of open looks in that 4th Q, the shots just werent falling for them, but they were getting what they wanted as far as shots were concerned. Also there was a point in the game when Matt Bonner accidentally bumped into Chris Paul after snagging a rebound and Paul seemed irritated by it and tried to confront Bonner and Duncan got in his way and had some words with Paul. I thought that was interesting, 2 Wake Forest guys and also apparently Duncan was one of Paul's idols but Duncan still got in Paul's face and basically told him to relax.

Chris Paul is awesome. :D
In my opinion, also an early candidate for defensive player of the year this year. Jeff Van Gundy and Dan Shulman were discussing this last night during the telecast as well. Incidentally, Dan Schulman also explained to Jeff the origins of Matt Bonner's nickname "the red rocket".

He is very good defensively and might be the best point guard defensively but I will stick with Deron Williams. One on one, D-Will usually dominates.

I think lawyerman was saying D-Will is a better defensive PG than CP3 - and I concur.

That being said, depending on the team I had around him, I would probably take Chris Paul over Deron Williams as my point guard.
