I was checking out, and realized that I didn't want the bag of chips. Instead of going back to the chip aisle to put them where they belong, a two minute walk), I put them on the nearest shelf, where it didn't belong. The grocery store worker said, "Those don't belong there!" I explained that I didn't want them, and that I was checking out, and she said, "then give them to me!"

I was kind of shocked by this rudeness. I understand that the chips don't belong on the shelf, but it's not like I was putting a regfrigerated item there (like some people do). There are hundreds of misplaced items on shelves from customers swapping or abandonding items, and having worked in a grocery store myself, I know that it is part of the worker's jobs to collect these items and put them where they belong. Sometimes someone is assigned to go through the store and collect misplaced items in a cart for later sorting.

And that should have been your retort! Along with "I bid you good day sir!"

I didn't, sadly. I just said, "OK" and carried on. I have made many scenes by sticking up for myself after being treated like shit by employees. I'm tired of it, and decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

I went to the grocery store one day, filled up my cart and went through the checkout. The bill came to $140. I handed over a $100 and a $50 bill. The cashier said they don't accept $100 bills. I said, seriously? She said yes, seriously. I said, have fun putting the groceries back and walked out.

I rarely see any people paying cash anymore (mostly elderly ladies and/or in Chinatown).

You should have just said: "It's right there" and walked out. :ROFLMAO: But sometimes it just isn't worth it as engaging will make your mood worse.

I've learned that the hard way.

There area times where I'm in the wrong, or there is a misunderstaning on my part, and I regret making a big deal of it.

But even in the other cases, it just makes me feel worse and ruins my day even when they at fault.

I sometimes handle that by being calm and asking for clarification. "It is right here, so couldn't you just take it from here?" And see what they have to say. If they say something blaming me, I would tell them, "Okay, but did you have to be so rude about it?". They eventually end up apologizing. A bit passive aggressive but it feels good. 😂

That is a good strategy, I like it.

On the one hand, I don’t like to get upset and let idiots ruin my day by being rude to me. I usually end up looking like a fool by losing control and yelling.

On the other hand, I don’t feel good about not doing anything and letting them get away with it. I want them to be held accountable.
