I was checking out, and realized that I didn't want the bag of chips. Instead of going back to the chip aisle to put them where they belong, a two minute walk), I put them on the nearest shelf, where it didn't belong. The grocery store worker said, "Those don't belong there!" I explained that I didn't want them, and that I was checking out, and she said, "then give them to me!"
I was kind of shocked by this rudeness. I understand that the chips don't belong on the shelf, but it's not like I was putting a regfrigerated item there (like some people do). There are hundreds of misplaced items on shelves from customers swapping or abandonding items, and having worked in a grocery store myself, I know that it is part of the worker's jobs to collect these items and put them where they belong. Sometimes someone is assigned to go through the store and collect misplaced items in a cart for later sorting.
