But a cash grab is only a cash grab for the people caught breaking the law. For everyone else, it's called tax relief.
This
You gotta be dumbest fuck on the planet, we are talking about 12 kmh over 40 kmh, we are not discussing Marco Muzzo here genius!!
That is 52 in a school or safety zone. That is a lot if you hit a kid. It is not a simple as saying “only 12” over like if you were on a hwy. That 12 over can kill.

Not saying you should lose your license for 12 over but let’s not minimize the damage that could be done even at those lower speeds. This why they have speeds set as low as 40 in those zones.

You don't only risk loosing you driving license but could end up in jail should you speed and hit a kid.
Going 30% over limit well get you a ticket in any speed zone. You are not only an idiot for speeding but also for playing the victim card. No one feeling bad for you
Totally agree. Having grown adults speeding in their vehicles within areas where kids are is absolute shameful behavior. And the solution here for any driver is really simple... DON'T SPEED.

When was the last people lost their DL for driving 12 clicks over the limit, Einstein???
Haha again you are an IDIOT

Speed limit is set to 40 to reduce fatalities
You drive 52 (your admission not mine) in a COMMUNITY SAFETY ZONE

You hit someone in school zone who died
Guess what, you have lost your license and get a big insurance hike (you could even face criminal charges)

@EntertainmentMan2000 just ignore most of his rantings in this thread
Numerous posters (incl me) have pointed out how many times he has been wrong so as to be laughable

There’s no way anyone is getting a ticket for 2 KM over the limit. That has to be inside the margin of error.

Hamilton actually set their cameras for 1KM over

They also have been issuing an insane number of tickets per month (way more than say TO or Brampton)

There obviously is a correlation

I can’t imagine that would stand up in court. Your tire pressure could be enough to offset what your speedometer reads.

That’s ridiculous.

EVERY community should be a COMMUNITY SAFETY ZONE, not just a few chosen ones.

BTW you're wrong about hundreds of them being around in 1998, the City didnt designate them until 2018:

750 local schools could gain community safety zones, speed enforcement

Community safety zones could soon be developed around hundreds of Toronto schools, in hopes of boosting safety for young students — another piece of the city's Vision Zero road safety plan.

If city council gives the proposal a green light, more than 750 elementary schools could become the centres for the new zones. That would lead to speeding fines being doubled in those neighbourhoods across the city, according to a new report that's heading to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday for approval.

"Currently a school zone is only 150 metres, which really doesn't cut it to create a safe environment," said Coun. Jaye Robinson, the committee's chair.

Community safety zones, in contrast, don't have a measurement limitation.

Signage marking the areas, flashing lights, and zebra-style road markings are all expected in the years ahead if the zones are approved, much like what's currently at some schools throughout the city.

Robinson said the new zones would also allow the city to put up cameras and implement automated speed enforcement — more commonly known as photo radar — through a collaboration with Toronto police.

"It's a huge step forward for Toronto's road safety plan," she said.

'They have to spend more money'

This latest element of the city's ongoing Vision Zero efforts, a push to bring the city's road deaths to zero, follows several children dying so far this year near Toronto schools.

In January, a five-year-old girl was killed in a parking lot at St. Raphael Catholic School in North York, and the following month, an 11-year-old boy was struck and killed near Kennedy Public School in Scarborough.

Even after the boy's death, school crossing guard Gus Kanellos said he still sees cars driving quickly through the residential neighbourhood and welcomed Kennedy Public School's inclusion on the city's list for a future community safety zones.

"They have to spend more money on the schools to make it safe," he said.

And more money is indeed needed, according to the latest report, with transportation services requesting $1.48 million in additional operating and capital funding, which will be considered as part of the 2019 budget process.

52 kph can kill a pedestrian pretty easily, especially kids or the elderly. Also reduces your reaction time a noticeable amount.

I've always thought a percentage system would be more useful. 52 in a 40 is 30% above the limit.

Simple. Don't speed. They put them where they did for a reason...because they're in residential neighbourhoods and they want to keep those communities safe. If it were up to me, it would be a 1-year license suspension.
You’re right on. I live in a 30km zone and see assholes speeding down my street regularly. I have no sympathy for speeders in residential districts.

Exactly. If you want to drive and speed then go to the racetrack. Those people that actually do will find out quickly that speeding is no joke.

And yes, I do race in a professional setting following all of the rules, guidelines and safety precautions.

I agree.

I'm not a red light runner, not at all, but in this case, obviously I was in the intersection when it was red.
You were not “in the intersection when it was red”, you entered the intersection after the light had already turned red. If you enter the intersection while the light is still yellow the camera is not triggered.
So you either deliberately ran the red ... or you were distracted and not paying attention. The yellow in Ontario is pretty long so if you go through on a stale yellow that’s pretty deliberate.
