711 / Petro Canada work off of the rogers network for pay as you go. 711 top up can last a year.
I use fongo/dell ( a voip app on my phone ) which uses you data.

You can duo sim your phone with an insert if that is an option to consider.

Get the burner app: https://www.burnerapp.com/

It runs as a second phone# on your smartphone and only costs $5 per month.
In addition you can change your phone# every month.

Try getting 647 numbers though, 416 and 905 are hard to get

I just got one at no cost. Unlimited texting 100 talk minutes per month and 500MB of data. 2 year contract $45 per month with $100 gift certificate. If you don't want any data I think it's $40/month.

I use Freedom mobile as a provider for my burner phone, previously WIND. Service area isn't the best but it suits my purposes (dat 5gb of data beats hell out of my regular provider and I often tether as a result)...

This ^ .

And then hide it within a sub-group. Make sure you manually close the app when you are not using it in case you get an incoming text.

And delete each message thread when you are done.

But remember that you will get a monthly charge on your iTunes (or GooglePlay?) account.

A more anonymous phone is a 7-11 or Petrocan phone or sim card paid for in cash.

Thanks all. I'll look into 711 or Petri. I've tried the Hushed app and so far so good but said it's free but now telling me I'm running out of credits...hmm

I had a Koodo Mojo, cost was around $100 start-up and I think that gave me my first month too. The plan was $15/month, text only, $5 more and you had a talk booster. I bought at variety stores when I needed to top up my account.

You dont really get a paper trail or a contract with Burner app. You just get charged $5 a month to your paypal acct and thats it. On your CC bill it will just show up as 'paypal google play'

711 phone top up can be $20 and lasts a full year. I spend probably $30 a year on it in total, no issues. I've tried free texting apps etc. but a dedicated phone is easier. If anyone found it and asked, I can say I found it since I usually have a newer phone and this one is an ancient flip phone!
