My Old Ass could be the sleeper hit of the fall season.

Aubrey Plaza has Nicolas Cage level talent, it's about time she gets to be a leading lady.

Farrah Fawcett looked plain next to Jenny Agutter. In my feckless teenager years, I though she was the hottest woman in the world. I was surprised that TCM broadcast the uncut version of Logan's Run.

Not a theatrical movie, but I watched Apartment 7A earlier this week.

It's a prequel to Roman Polanski's 1968 film Rosemary's Baby.

For me, there's a certain morbid curiosity about watching a movie where you know in advance that the main character is going to die at the end, as with David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

The acting, direction, and set dressing are all excellent. The story has a slower pace until near the end, at which point it speeds up faster than it maybe should have. There's no gratuitous blood whatsoever; this is psychological horror, as opposed to gore fest. I don't regret watching it, but it's doubtful that I would ever want to re-watch.

I'm not impressed by hype.

The buzz is Venom: The Last Dance will have the biggest opening in the franchise. It's been stripped down, Tom Hardy has co-written the script. Michelle Williams is not in the film but Peggy Lu (Mrs Chen) has a greater role. Venom2 was crap but still made $540 million at the North American box-office. The unknown factor: does Tom Hardy have cache with Gen Z like he does with Millennials?

Peggy Lu has become the unexpected star of the franchise, I'm going to miss Michelle Williams.

I watch two to four movies a month in theatres
You must be a popcorn addict like me...classic film flashback.

Who says Germans don't have a sense of humour? Before Inglorious Basterds and Rush made him an international superstar, Daniel Bruhl made Goodbye Lenin. Perhaps the most genuinely, bittersweet comedy of the 00's.

Always thought of Daniel Bruhl as German, he's actually Catalan.

This movie is a waste of 96 minutes of your life. Just what we need: a prequel to a movie with a 3.7/10 rating on imdb.

Perhaps you have had an experience like this:

The parental advisory before the movie says 'This movie contains scenes of nudity, coarse language and violence. Viewer discretion is advised', And that's enough to not have you flip to something else.

There are some onscreen tits within the first couple of minutes:

so you keep watching.

The movie starts slowly, and the acting is poor. you think to yourself: This has to get better. It never does.

After an hour, if you're still watching, there's another brief scene with tits.

Most of the action and completely predictable plot twists occur in the last ten minutes.

I give this 1 3/4 stars out of five. It's not bad enough to be an unintentional comedy, but you usually only see film making this bad in Canadian made-for-TV movies.

I watched The Substance last night, and enjoyed it a lot.

Body horror is not a favorite genre of mine, but this one managed to stay close to the edge of grotesque without crossing over into the realm of gross out.

There are strong performances by Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, (Andi McDowell's daughter), but the real star is director Coralie Fargeat. wikipedia describes the movie as 'a satirical body horror comedy', and I'd have to agree that that's accurate.

Blazing Saddles celebrates it's 50th Anniversary.

The film could not be made today, all of Richard Pryor's input to the script would be removed.

Sadly, that's probably true.
Something this woke would be review bombed into the ground by internet trolls.

  • Black lead
  • All the white people (except Jim) are villains or idiots
  • Racism being treated as contemptuous.
Way too woke.
It would never have a chance.

I'm almost half way through Window of Opportunity, (2015):

This movie is obscure, (4.1K views of the trailer on YouTube in 10 years, no stub on wikipedia) imdb link

I had never heard of this one before, but I twftt when it was posted earlier today on torrentday, and probably a lot of other sites. In hindsight, I would probably have enjoyed this better if I hadn't watched the last half of the trailer. Not that the ending sucks, I just know things before I'm supposed to.

There have been a few truly outstanding single lines of dialogue so far.

Ono is on a genius run.

Is the girl boss era over? Steven Knight has dropped out of writing the screenplay for Rey Wars. He's the creator of Peaky Blinders which is getting a film. Of course Netflix wanted to take advantage of Oscar winner Cillian Murphy and having Tom Hardy back doesn't hurt. The big question is, did Gina Gray (Anya Taylor Joy) survive a whacking and who will play Churchill?

She's so gorgeously horny lol.

I watched The Apprentice over the weekend:

The very unflattering Donald Trump bio pic. It covers roughly the period from about 1972 - 87. About fifteen minutes in, I still thought this was a comedy. Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn gives a great performance.
