The business is in selling replacement cartridges, not razors,
since I replaced my 15 years old Gillette Mach3 with a Schick, I am now forced to buy Schick cartridges, likely for a long time

if someone else will purchase for me, the same applies, blades are not interchangeable between brands, I can't use Gillette cartridges on my new razor, I might buy Gillette disposables, but that is not desirable (lower quality product) or maybe purchase a new razor, which happens once in a couple decades

so Gillette is quite vulnerable to a boycott

Here's what some male had to say on Twitter:

To be clear, #Gillette didn't offend their only customer demographic. They only offended a part of it. You know, the ones that think they're Alphas, when in fact, they're the true Betas.

Their words, not mine.
You mean "his" words... the Twitter user you quoted. It's a silly divisive comment.

Let me guess, a Hollywood schmuck with a large progressive base?

Well, you have to admit - anybody who gets this upset over an ad, must have a huge insecure chip on their shoulders. It’s just an ad after all - if you let an ad dictate and dominate your emotions, you have a problem and/or tiny testicles.

This ad is completely insulting.

What the fuck kind of made up word is "toxic masculinity" anyways.

It conflates masculinity with being an asshole, two very different things.
It then paints all men as sexually assaulting idiots, proceeds to lecture and scold all men based on that generalization, and does all this from the incredibly disingenuous position of trying to sell a product.

Toxic Masculinity my ass.
Let's make up a word called Toxic Femininity, and paint all women with the brush of money grubbing, gold digging, catty bitches. Then Always should make a commercial condemning all women for these traits in the name of selling Maxi Pads.

Such a commercial wouldn't just get negative comments and dislikes, that get censored with the assistance of Youtube itself.
Such an ad would be pulled within seconds of it being posted, while women marched with pitch forks and torches to hang someone.
BINGO ! You've said it the best that I've read.

Right. Which means she will keep buying the same products she has been buying for him for years. So how many actual married guys who use Gillette are going to actually boycott?

He is not going to go out on his own, change brands, maybe a couple times until her finds what he likes just to boycott from a commercial and if he tells his wife why, most wives will probably not agree and win the battle between them because again, she does the shopping. Not him.
Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about - men change brands and men are quite independant shoppers unless you they are probably over 70, and there are A LOT of single men.

Real men aren't threatened by pieces of shit men being called out. If you identify with the who the ad calls out, what does that say?

Not all women are SJWs, truth is SJWs are a minority, but a loud influencial one, because they occupy positions of power or can intimidate those who are.
For the record many men are SJW's too.

At least for me, it is not the message but the messenger,

I really don't like being lectured, in a most condescending, patronizing way and even worse, by a soulless, dishonest, hypocrite mega corporation and/ or its leftist friends

so Schick it is

A rebuttal to Gillette from Edgar Watches.
I agree with what this commercial is saying as much as the Gillette one because I don't internalize it as being critical of all men. It does depict men doing good things as well.

What I feel important to note about this one is that it illustrates how the very patriarchal society men created entraps them too, only in different ways than women, as pointed out in the article Patriarchy's Unlikely Victims https://newint.org/blog/2014/12/04/patriarchy-men-victims and others. Traditionally women weren't allowed to be firefighters or in the military and are still the minority in those professions. I believe there's a lot of male on male violence occurring, hence why they constitute the majority of homicide victims. I feel for the good guys supporting their children with no visitation rights, but not the abusive ones who rightfully shouldn't have contact with them. The statistic given doesn't show that breakdown. Men in part account for a higher percentage of suicide victims because they often use more lethal methods than women. How many of each sex attempts suicide? I suspect the gap will narrow quite a bit taking that into account. Some of those single homeless men fought in wars, which brings us back to point number one, fewer women were on the front lines in the past.

The silly caricatures in the ad don't threaten anyone. Maybe you were thinking of a different choice of words because the "threaten" bit is outmoded.

If a patriarchy exists, it was created by men and women. Why does feminist doctrine downplay the integral role women have played in shaping society? Women comprise over 50% of the population... they've been active participants, not mere bystanders, throughout all of human history.

I didn't deny anything about men shopping or men being single.

But you all seem to think every man in the world is going to boycott. THAT is just not going to happen.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news on that one.

Too many women who do the shopping, too many women who will use Gillette themselves now, too many gay men who were bullied, to many parents who saw their kids bullied, too many married men who already use Gillette and don't do the shopping.....

There is just too many in other categories to have much of a difference made by the minority of hetro sexual men who will actually try to boycott. Remember tons of people bitch but don't actually change products either.

So I think I kinda do know what I am talking about even if you don't like.

Ok. That can and probably is all true.

But how many of those single men are hetro sexual men who took exception to the ad, and how many who did take exception, how many are going to remember the ad in 4 weeks when they need a new blade and of those who remember, how many are actually going to boycott by trying something different.

The numbers keep going down.

For women, which already have the majority will have numbers that go up, as more and more cheer the ad.

Also remember that Gillette does make a female line therefore having a way to gain more customers.

To me it is neither here nor there. I just don't personally see how a "boycott" is really going to do anything to Gillette's bottom line.
Oh, it probably won't significantly hurt their bottom line. I think it'll be a very modest blow.
I'd prefer to think that most people, women and men, are smart enough to avoid making purchasing decisions based on ideological pandering by brands. Did anyone go out and buy more Pepsi after that stupid ad about bringing together protestors and anti-riot cops? Or less?

That would be a very interesting study.

This is the problem with how most people use statistics these days. They don't tell the whole story, only the portion that supports their own ideology. It's easy to say three times as many men are victims of suicide than women. But as you say, what is the reason for that? Are more men attempting or are they just more effective? Or a combination?

Sadly, that may be difficult to determine. Men have been conditioned NOT to be transparent about these sort of things.

I laugh at the idea of a boycott. Certainly one that will cause the demise of Gillette's head like some are calling for.

Gillette will be here in another ten years. I will necrobump this thread then.

Until then, I'm bored with this ..

People that actually want to kill themselves are more successful at it because they use methods that are lethal. A shocking revelation from Gender Studies 101.

Gillette is "too big to fall" but the people that made the ad/ approve it can get their careers affected, you just need a tiny decline in market share and the people on top will start chopping heads
