Ive been to a lot of concerts and parties this year and everywhere i go people are smoking weed. I wouldn't mind but for the past while when ever i smell that distinctive smell I get a huge head ache and usually feel sick to my stomach but I never vomit.

I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if anyone has any recommendations on what I could do (besides not going to places where weed is smoked).

Cheers

Funny... but I get the same sort of reactions when exposed to cigarette smoke. The only solution I've found is to simply stay away from it. Nothing else seems to work. Now, I've been known to burn the odd blunt now and again but never have any problems there...

...and it leads to coke, amphetamines and heroin, too!

To say nothing of anti-social behaviour, stealing, violence, rape, murder, sociopathology and insanity.

They called it Reefer Madness less than 75 years ago. It was bullshit then and it still is bullshit today!

Hey Cosa... welcome to the 21st century!

well it's a good thing I don't believe everything I read on the internet... the above comments probably apply more to 'straight' people who have no outlet or are alcoholics...tokers are too lazy to bother with all that.

I would just suggest to stay away from it as much as you can, if it bothers you, inscence and perfume do the same thing to me, so I usually try to stay away from stinky people...:p

It depends upon who you are I guess. I've smoked weed for over 30 years, run a successful business, own my own home, cottage, new car, employ several people and weed consumption has been the least of my worries. For me, cannabis is fuel. I did quit cigarettes though...nasty bit of corporate death, that is. As far as the smell goes, just smoke some. I never smell weed when I'm smoking it. LOL.

Did the drugs make them lazy or were they lazy to begin with?

It's too simplistic to just blame it on a drug.

You also need to consider all the other factors as to why this person uses drugs. Different people use drugs for different reasons so the outcomes can also be vastly different.

But to address the original question I want to echo the same theme that different people react differently but yes I have heard of people who react the same way. I remember throwing up once when I was a kid...... my friends sister was giving us a ride in the winter time and the windows were rolled up and she was smoking a ciggarette.

Cough, cough...

Me too. To trichome, I mean.*

Each day I become more and more amazed by the newest revelations about ganja... about the incredible number of creative people who use/d it; the history of its use until about 100 years ago; its medicinal qualities; its aphrodisiac effects...

Just a few days ago, I read that scientific research shows it does not create cancer. Indeed, there is persuasive evidence that it CURES cancer... that the active ingredient in TCH destroys cancerous cells.

It reminds me of all those "tales" about ganja that I heard Bob Marley and so many other Rasta sing to me... they are true!!!!!!

I have used it for more than 30 years, too. Largely in meditation, which is the way it has been used since time immemorial. And it has helped me to see and understand the mess that this world is in... and to grow in achieving peace of mind for myself...

I find it absolutely nauseating and headache inducing. Once in a while I catch the smell of a certain variety which doesn't bother me, but that's very rare.

Since these days it nearly impossible to attend a social gathering with people my age or younger without a bunch of people using weed, I have simply stopped all socializing after work.

When I used to take the night buses, I had to confiscate and throw out quite a few joints.

I find it ridiculous that tobacco smokers can't smoke even in a place where everybody wants to, but weed smokers can force their fumes on everyone! Any and all smoke is an irritant and a carcinogen - what is being burned is not of major significance.

As with all mood altering substances, the effects depend on the individual, some people find it stimulating, others find it a downer. I know people who become instantly sleepy from frinking coffee.

When I started working with Compassion Clubs I was amazed by what I saw. Those suffering from the wasting effects of cancer and AIDS suddenly had appetites which helped them to build strength and keep down their prescription meds. I met people with epilepsy who threw out their prescription drugs and managed to drastically reduce the frequency of seizures. The thing that I found most surprising was that everyone that came to us for cannabis had a prescription for morphine and they hated taking it beacuse it was addictive and physically debilatating. Doctors give out morphine prescriptions like candy but try to talk to most of them about replacing it with cannabis and they look at you like you're just a druggie. Time for a reality check. Our country certainly has drug problems but cannabis doesn't even enter into it.
Every time the powers that be commission a new study into the effects of cannabis, they inadvertently discover find a new benefit. God, they must hate that.

For those who simply hate the smell, I do have some sympathy. I have an adult daughter who can't stand the smell. Conversely though, I also don't like the smell of diesel fuel, KFC chicken outlets or people who feel compelled to bathe in cologne. Still, I must tolerate it. Reality dictates that individuals must adapt to their environment and avoid the things that offend them. This notion that the world must adapt to suit an individual's personal likes and dislikes seems to be a new one fueled by political correctness.

What reality are you talking about? No-Smoking laws are the reality. No-Noise laws are reality. If some groups of people can demand protection from what they find offensive, why not everybody?

Perry....forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't Marley die of cancer?

However, I agree with you wholeheartly...I would much rather chill with a "jay" than drink.

With all the superweed out there, I find 1/3 of a cigerette size "jay" is more than enuff to get me where I want to be.;)

This is not a thread in which to have an argument about various merits and downsides of Marijuana. It's a support-thread for people who have difficulty with the smell, and perhaps to search for a concensus on how smokers and non-smokers can coexist.

As weed smokers become more brazen, I feel that many of them are hypocritical and selfrighteous about issues like tobacco smoke and polution whithout showing the same consideration to people who are significantly discomforted by their smoke.

I am a libertarian and I support designated smoking areas for tobacco and even entire smoking establishments, and I would support the same thing for people who smoke other things.

But I find that on a social level, weed smokers tend to be less accepting and embracing of people who don't share their pleasure than tobacco smokers are. If you opt out then you;re just not fully "one of us", I find that this behaviour resembles hardcore alchoholics & drug users more than Tobacco and Caffine addicts.

I completely understand your comments. My earlier point was that there are limits to what we should expect to be protected from. If you are walking down the street, you will confront all kinds of unpleasant odours from cigarette and pot smoke to car exhaust and factory smells. There's not a lot you can do about any of it. If someone is smoking a joint in a bar, then perhaps they should go outside. The obvious answer is to have coffee shops for herb smoking but we're sure not there yet.
I'm glad that you acknowledge the rights of cigarette smokers as well. I am an ex cigarette smoker but not a rabid one and the current antismoking laws smack of fascism. No one should have to breathe anyone else's smoke and I would hate to return to the days where people smoked at their workstations but to ban a ventilated smoking room is more about social control than health issues.
I like where you are coming from.
