1989 celebrity episode, 'The funny men vs the funny women'. The question was "Name a place where lovers meet to share a secret kiss.". Richard slammed the buzzer, and squealed "The locker room! ...oh, wait.", outing himself. While back in the team line up, Richard kept muttering that he was only kidding, painfully trying to get back in the closet. Willie Tyler and Lester were ahead of him. Lester's head rotated 180 degrees to face Richard, and audibly said "Stay away from me, you damned faggot.". There's no online video evidence, but I saw the episode.

He was a politician who was wrongly accused of some crime. Instead of fighting it, he just shot himself on live television.....

R. Budd Dwyer was a State Treasurer in Pennsylvania who was accused of bribery. At a press conference he pulled out a gun, placed it in his mouth and pulled the trigger. It happened while local news stations filmed the news conference. I wanted to post a link to the story, but they all contained video of the incident which I don't want to post. Years later there was evidence he was not guilty of the charge. Tragic.
