I have unused Future Shop gift cards. How do I use them?

You can use Future Shop gift cards in-store or online at BestBuy.ca or any Best Buy store in Canada.
On future shop's website scroll down and you will see this. Though I don't expect any problems, but I would try and use the gift card as soon as possible just to prevent unforeseen complications.

Wow, I was just browsing their site two days ago.

By setting up two shops they kept the competition out.

I called the Yonge/Dundas store yesterday and was surprised that a real human being actually answered. All Future Shop stores are closed and the one at Yonge/Dundas will not re-open as a Best Buy.

It's expensive to maintain two brands especially when they compete against each other. Wonder if this will affect The Source? In other news, Target Canada is closing stores faster than originally planned.

P.S. 500 full time job loss and 1,000(?) part-time.

I'd be interested to know why they went under the best buy banner as opposed the future shop banner seeing as it was the same company anyway. I liked future shop way better so I wish it had of been future shops that took over. I'm guessing for some reason their best buy banner seems to be more profitable for some reason, or they had way more best buys than future shops so it would be easier to convert/close the future shops.

Question: Does Best Buy/Future Shop own the land under their stores? If yes, they can spin off the real estate like Loblaws, Hudson'Bay, Canadian Tire, etc.

Maybe because Best Buy was the parent company that bought them out and they knew they would be closing some of the stores from the beginning.

Why Best Buy? Easy, Best Buy is the US parent, they bought out Canadian company Future Shop a number of years back, now they are consolidating and eliminating the Future Shop name. It was inevitable from the beginning.

And this has nothing to do with returning to mom and pop type electronics stores, unfortunately...

What do you expect. An American company buys a Canadian company and then shuts down the original Canadian company . I hate Best Buy so I won't be shopping there.

I preferred shopping in Best Buy because the sales people would leave you alone unless you asked a question.

Always hated the pushy high pressure sales tactics at Future Shop.

That said I buy electronics online these days. I think brick and mortar stores in that space are doomed, but if you like bricks and mortars, Costco has them beat on price for the big ticket items and Amazon/eBay clean their clock for the smaller stuff.

Not sure about The Soure, but I am surprised that Bell isn't consolidating Bell Stores into Source stores in malls where there are both. In fact here in London, both big malls either are currently or soon will be renovating and re-opening Bell stores. As for Target, the plan was to close all stores by May 16. Nothing was ever said about how many stores would close at any given time before then, so I don't think we can say they are closing them faster than planned. Also this week, the company that owns Bootlegger, Ricki's and Cleo sought CCAA protection and planned to close 50 out of 300 stores over the course of April.

I get around.
Worst aspect of this is we don't even have the opportunity to pick up items at Liquidation/Clearance prices. :(

Years ago, one could visit their local tv and stereo shop and get good before, and after service. Then places like Future shop changed everything, putting the mom and pop stores out of business, and introduced us to disposable products and horrible service. Glad to see the tide is changing again.
Yes back in the past (70s/80s) every strip mall plaza had a little electronics store.
The tide has changed to online shopping. Don't know if that's better, though.

And, RIP Kromer Radio.

Wish they changed the Best Buy stores to Futureshop stores. Always enjoyed going to Futureshop as they always had what I needed.

You might as well wish for Christmas in July. Equal chance that either would happen.

I agree on both fronts.

I hate bestbuy too. I knew that futureshop was owned by bestbuy, but for some reason, I always went to Futureshop.

The big American companies come into Canada and buy up (Zellers, Futureshop, Stelco, you name it) and shut them all down throwing everyone out on the street.
