I'm not quite sure where to start this thread off. I really Want to share with everybody and I ask if the mods please don't delete this thread because it is rather funny!! I hope y'all get a chuckle when you read it! So I'll start off by saying I have a really old house and all of the doorknobs in my house seem to be broken. they require octagon nut and bolt pieces and they just don't make them like that anymore.. All the nuts and bolts are made Square now... Anyways... I was getting ready to say goodbye to my client today and I grabbed onto the door handle to open the door leading out of the bedroom and lo and behold I was standing there with the doorknob Half hanging off... Now mind you I did try to do my own home repair to fix the door before this happened... So I jimmied it up with some wiring some tape... Yes I'm very blonde! Lol Needless to say my client and I were locked in my room!! Now at this point I'm starting to freak out a little bit thinking how the heck can we open the door... So I thought to myself .. I'll just go out the bedroom window because it leads to the back door go through the backdoor into my house and open the bedroom door from the opposite side while my client waited in the bedroom for me to do so... I then suddenly remembered the back door was locked... It would've been pointless for me to climb out the window in my lingerie to open up the door plus My neighbors Sure would have gotten an eye full!! Silly blonde!! Thankfully I remembered at the last second it was locked... saved myself a teeny bit of embarrassment there! So I then had to unwrap all the tape I put Over the handle (seeing how I did such a cool home repair job )LOL... And I then realized there's no possible way to open the door... The handle was still intact on the other side of the door and there was no way to grab a hold of the metal piece that goes through the hole of the door that turns in to open the other Side of the handle! So now I had already gone over my time limit that he had booked for and now I'm holding him up!! As I started to panic... My client Thankfully figured a way to open the door with his car keys and his tie clip... Quite the little handyman I must say!! He freed us and saved the day!! YAY!! So I just wanted to apologize once again to him for holding him up and making him believe I had him locked in and also wanted to ask anybody on the board if they know where I can go to get Octagon pieces that my door requires... So that is my funny story I have to share with you guys I hope you enjoyed it... And I will not be making the same mistake twice and closing the door tight Ever again until it is fixed! So if anyone knows where I can grab those pieces please point me in the right direction!! thank you very much LMFAO!!! Only me I tell you...only me!!

If it was me and had a sample of what I was looking for I would hit some flea markets. There's always someone at them that has old door knobs and hardware.

Miss Victoria...have you tried to google it? I'm not trying to be a smartass. I used to try and go to stores to find things that were hard to find and then voila, on of my friends gave me an "e-smack" to the back of my head...basically an email smartass comment to me telling me to google it!!! If you have tried that already, the only other suggestion is asking a mom-and-pop type locksmith shop as they may have more info as they've probably seen it all. Good luck.
Either google it, or take a pic, and go to Canadian Tire or something, they will have it for sure.
I had a similar story once:
A really hot highschool classmate invited me to her place to help with math. I had a huge crush on her, btw.
So, I explain a few math problems to her, then we go to the kitchen for some refreshments.
After eating whatever it was, I immediately get an urge to go to the bathroom, like an emergency one.
Off to the bathroom I run at the speed of light, lock the door, drop my pants, ... explosive diarrhea.
And then she shouts from the kitchen: "I am sorry, but the flush does not work in the bathroom. And another thing, do not lock the door,
if you lock it, it jams, and you cannot open it without disassembling the lock".
Naturally, upon hearing all of that, I started sweating like crazy.

I managed to clean the toilet with an improvised cup & water running in the toilet tank.
It took like 5 min to open the door though. Used some small pin or something to unjam the lock.
Oh, and nothing ever happened between us.
BTW, after highschool she turned to gold-digging, and shared a few stories with me, lol.
How she was convincing guys on the net into buying her trips to different places, etc. I guess she started small with math problems, lol.

Reminds me of the story about the constipated mathematician .... he worked it all out with a pencil.

Try some of the security lock stores around town, they might have some older equipment lying around.

If not they can likely replace your existing lock with a newer one. I recently had a problem as my house has the older style mortise locks on them.

What's the name of the Memonite town North of Kitchener ? They're is a company that demo's old houses. Except they save all the wood, doors, hardware etc.... Take the nuts n' bolts to them. They likely have the hardware.
