Sask. has stopped trying to control COVID-19. What does that mean for seniors?

Saskatchewan seniors shouldn't be isolated any longer because of COVID-19, according to advocates for the older population.

The government has stopped trying to control the spread of COVID-19 in the community and lifted nearly all restrictions in the province. But seniors living in care facilities still face potential lockdowns.

Ontario reports 1,038 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 319 patients in ICU

The number of hospitalizations is down from 1,064 the day before and 1,550 at the same time last week. The province did not release COVID-19 data on Monday as it was a holiday.

According to the Ministry of Health, 50 per cent of those people were admitted to the hospital specifically for COVID-19 treatment while the other 50 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for the virus.

Time to fully reopen all businesses and get on with life, 160 people in ICU with COVID is no longer a satisfactory reason why mandates need to remain in place.

Nope. Trolls like mandrill, squeezer, Frankfooter haven't dealt in facts or truth. Ever.
Insulting and nonsensical posts like this can get one banned. Hmmmmm, to report or not to report, that is the question,

Vaccination reduces death in Ontario long-term care homes by 87 per cent during Omicron wave

Further proof mandates need to be lifted. Mask up at high risk settings and get on with dropping the mandates, restrictions and microscopic control by the Government of our daily lives everywhere else.

As it stands right now, what things can't you do because of current restrictions?

Travel freely. Tired of the government telling us how we go about our daily lives. Enough is enough.
Having to stand in line like we are Fn poor as f to buy a pair of shoes for 2 hours is outrageous because of capacity limits. Give me a F break.
I am triple vaccinated and masked..don't tell me to get to the back of the bus. If I want to spend my money at a retail store no Fn reason to wait two hours.

I have no plans to buy everything from Amazon FFS.

All the BS shows that "they" put ZERO faith in Vaccines.

This might piss all you lockdown lovers off, at work once in the office, masks are optional. No one at my office wears a mask once inside our space. Everyone is double jabbed at a minimum. Its been like that for half a year now. Guess what, no one is sick. Just shows that 30+ people can work close to one another being fully vaccinated and there are no Covid issues. Masking is not required. 2m spacing is not required. And as luck would have it we all eat in the same space

It's a shame Patrick Brown got booted from the PC Party when those young women decided it was time to finger him.
If he was Premier pretty sure masking would have been dropped by now for most of us.

If the Liberal Party started to pressure Ford to drop a vast majority of the Covid Mandates, they would get my vote. Ford won't be getting my support for this election.

I know lots of people that have been traveling freely over the past year.

Not sure where you shop but I've been out every day and I haven't seen any lineups for anything. Seriously, what store has had a 2 hour lineup? Not even during the Omicron lockdown did I see that.

Lots of work places have had an optional mask policy. Depends on the company. Glad there wasn't a COVID outbreak at your company. Omicron can spread quickly between people who work in close proximity to one another. I have friends who own bars and restaurants. Each had at least 50% of their staff catch COVID.

By travel freely, I mean no need to take a stupid pointless covid test before I board the airplane to my HOME COUNTRY. Like I said before, the Government needs to stop interfering with our daily lives. I already did what they asked: get your booster, so I did....once Pfizer was made available to me.

Guess you have not been out to the malls. That's fine if you would rather stay home. Mall near me has people lined up outside almost all the stores. Fn nuts when everyone is masked up. Last week I took my mask off and walked though out the entire place. No drink in hand. Walked past security guards multiple times...guess what...no one said "PUT YOUR MASK ON SIR."

Tell me, at your buddies bar, the 50% that got covid, how many died from it? And at your buddies bar, how many of them are triple vaccinated? Bet most of them fall into the 15% who refuse to get vaccinated.

Queen holds weekly call with British PM after cancelling virtual meetings Tuesday

The 95-year-old monarch was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Sunday
The Queen held her weekly audience with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson via telephone on Wednesday despite having contracted COVID-19, Buckingham Palace said.
Her age, COVID-19 diagnosis and recent health scare have been a cause of worry for British officials and the public, but being well enough to speak to Johnson was taken as an encouraging sign
The palace said Sunday that Elizabeth, who has been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot, would continue with "light" duties at Windsor Castle over the coming week.

And Canada remains in its state of near lockdown and we live our daily live's in absolute fear of Omicron. GIVE ME A BREAK. Time to end the mandates.

Hopefully Ford's mask decisions will make more sense than in Quebec where kids won't need masks in class but will have to wear them in the halls.

Do you think the government wasn't 'interfering' before or is it you just get upset when you are mildly inconvenienced?
Their involvement now is next level.
And the doctors on TV are just media whore's. They can't get enough of it. They are nothing more than a bunch of chimpanzees pushing the BS the Government wants them to spew out

Is getting a COVID test every time you travel, really a huge inconvenience? How often do you travel out of the country? Every day? Every week? Every month? I get a rapid test every single day. It's no big deal.

I haven't seen crazy lineups since the start of the pandemic. And I haven't stayed home. Everything had been pretty much normal except for wearing a mask in some situations.

Tell me, at your buddies bar, the 50% that got covid, how many died from it? And at your buddies bar, how many of them are triple vaccinated? Bet most of them fall into the 15% who refuse to get vaccinated.
Nobody died from it, but I understand the Government's concern when Omicron hit. They had no idea how many would end up in hospital. Now that we know more about it and how it doesn't make vaccinated people as sick, things are opening up and restrictions are being lifted. You might want to contact your doctor and get a prescription for some "chill pills." You really need to calm down.

Yes, it is a huge deal and a huge waste of my hobby budget having a swab stuck up my nose for no reason. I am triple vaccinated, people like me should be exempt returning to our home country.

I want to take several trips this year. Why the F do I need to spend an $1,000 on stupid tests that do NOTHING to stop or slow the spread of covid.

I should note that the Mayor's of Cities/Towns that border the US want all testing at the Borders dropped for full vaccinated as it is killing their local businesses.

Southwestern Ontario border mayors, groups call for end to COVID-19 testing at land crossings
Mayors of southwestern Ontario border cities, along with a U.S. counterpart, and tourism groups are calling on Ottawa to end any COVID-19 testing at land border crossings.

Mayors of Windsor, Niagara Falls and Sarnia in Ontario and Niagara Falls, N.Y, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and the Hotel Association of Canada held a news conference Friday underlining the economic losses due to the border testing "barrier."

"The practicality of the loosening of this restriction really means nothing to the average traveller," Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said during Friday's news conference.

"So I think what we need to do is trust Canadians to make smart decisions. We've asked people to get vaccinated, that is the high water mark here of the pandemic. But having a requirement for a test is really an optical illusion for safety. It really is providing no real protection."

Dilkens and his counterparts said the science doesn't support testing of this kind and it remains a barrier for those looking to cross land borders between the U.S. and Canada.

The tourism industry has been one of the hardest-hit sectors amid the pandemic, said Beth Potter, president of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada.

A $105-billion-a-year industry has "basically been cut in half."

"This is the planning cycle for the summer and we're hearing very much from our American counterparts that Canada is closed for business," said Potter. "We have a real challenge ahead of us to prove we're not only open for business, but removing those barriers so that we are open for business."

"Their businesses are hanging on by a thread and we're looking for predictability. If we miss this season, there is no industry standing on the other side of this," said Susie Grynol, president and chief executive officer of the Hotel Association of Canada.

Restaino said mayors and officials on both sides of the border have been leaders in their communities making sure COVID-19 vaccines are a top priority for their communities. Now, he said, it's time to relax the rules.

"Now that we've done our part, help us to sustain our economies, to do the things that help make our locations exciting for travellers."

No need for me to call my doctor. JT and PAWG Ford need to pull their heads out of their asses and move on from Covid. As you rightfully noted, Omicron is not all that lethal. There is no longer any reason to act like we are walking through a field of landmines. The risk from Omicron is pretty low.

New CDC Covid-19 metrics drop strong mask recommendations for most of the country

Most people in the United States live in areas where those who are healthy do not need to wear masks indoors, according to new US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance -- a sweeping change from what earlier Covid-19 metrics recommended

It's coming soon. Governments (regardless of who's in power) never make these decisions in a heartbeat. I imagine we'll have a well deserved spring, summer and beyond free from these last remaining restrictions. I can't freakin' wait!
