With so much riding on Venom, Tom Hardy is a consummate promoter. He is a legit dog aficionado, he has more dogs than kids: 3 - 2.

Adults also have to make tough decisions that can be lose/lose proposition, that's why we value dogs so much.

I owned three dogs in my life. The last a mutt named Louch took it out of me when he passed on. He was perceptive, he knew what I was thinking - and yet very dumb at the same time. He didn't know enough not to attack the porcupine a second time. We had to hold him down and pour whiskey down his throat to save his life. He would have died an excruciating death had we not taken the quills out. We were in an open forest north of Orangeville at the time, he wouldn't have made it to a vet.

My dad had a pointer when I was a kid. Great dog, but not terribly bright. My dad used to go hunting with my uncle who was a surgeon, they had to yank quills out of the poor boy’s face on 3 separate occasions.

Luckily none of our dogs since then have tangled with porcupines. My mom’s old boy mauled a rat once, we were pretty surprised because he was a pampered show dog. Didn’t think he knew how to catch rats. He didn’t actually manage to kill it, though. I wound up having to whack the poor thing in the head with a shovel so it wouldn’t suffer.

Was your mama's old boy a Jack Russell Terrier? That's what they were bred to in old British farms. They make excellent house pets that don't require much grooming.

I used to have a mutt when I was a kid that was my constant companion. Our favorite activity was me, him and my trusty .22 going after jack rabbits. The thing was, I rarely got to pull the trigger. He used to sneak up on our victims and and break their necks. And I never even trained him to do it. Had to have him on the leash all the time, otherwise he'd kill anything alive- cats, chickens other dogs. A real psycho dog.

No, he was a Portuguese Water Dog. They were bred to be boat dogs and retrieve things from the water. Not exactly known for their hunting prowess. He was a sweet, wussy old boy, and at that point in his life wasn’t exactly in his prime. That’s why is was so surprising that he was able to nab that rat.

I would love to own a Newfie but I can't justify it. The dog would get fat, lazy, farty and drool non stop if I kept he/she at home. My fellow cottagers would probably love him/her but what to do about winter?

Yeah, my mother had a pond put in at her country property so our pups can practise retrieving.

I volunteer with a dog rescue organization and I was at a meeting the other day where their fundraising was explained in detail. I really wanted to figure out a way to donate a decently large chunk of money to them in the future. They are a really good organization and I want to do what I can to help besides the volunteer stuff. I've seen that girls do raffles and thought perhaps I could one day put a raffle together ,to win my services, where all the proceeds go to the rescue organization. Anyways, its just a thought but it could perhaps be a really good fundraising method. Great thing is I don't have to explain where the funds came from and can donate them anonymously!!! It might be hard to prove that that's where the funds are going though as I can't be open about it with the org, and for my privacy I shouldn't give out what org it is. I'll have to figure out how I can show it's legitimately for fundraising. Actually, does anyone have ideas on how to do that? I don't want to hijack this thread so if you have an idea PM me please

That is a true miracle, that dog had a 2% chance of survival, it would not have survived the initial liquid diet. At that state any sort of dog food meant instant death.

The person or persons that abused the dog in such a manner deserve to be beaten and pissed on.
