Rabiot played for Juventus and the French national team, I didn't think he was great.
Man United given clear path to Adrien Rabiot transfer as statement released
Manchester United have made their mark in the transfer window with two signings of the same cloth ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Joshua Zirkzee has already been confirmed as United's first signing, and
18-year-old Leny Yoro is close to joining him. Both players arrive at
Old Trafford as youngsters with little experience but, on the flip side of things, with plenty of potential to grow into.
Before the start of the season, a new centre-back and striker were among the positions of priority at the club. Next is central midfield. Casemiro and Scott McTominay continue to be linked with exits away from United while
Sofyan Amrabat has still not completed a permanent move to Manchester after his loan spell from Fiorentina ended in June.
Benfica starlet Joao Neves has been viewed as a long-term target, but Paris Saint-Germain seems to be the likely destination. So where do United go from here?
Manuel Ugarte has been a mainstay in the rumour mill over the last few weeks, as has Adrien Rabiot. The France international is currently a free agent after his Juventus contract expired on June 30 and the club announced his official departure on Thursday.
"Adrien Rabiot and Juventus’ paths have parted. The French midfielder’s time in Turin has come to an end after five seasons," it read. "First joining in the summer of 2019, Adrien won a Scudetto, two Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup.
"Beyond the trophies won together, though, he will be remembered as a player who always gave his all for the shirt, and one who carried himself with undeniable charisma. On the pitch, Adrien was a vital player to Juventus, particularly without the ball. His work rate could not be called into question, and he made huge improvements to his offensive game in recent seasons.
"Last season saw him reach 200 appearances in our shirt, becoming the fifth Frenchman in our history to do so. In all, Adrien made 212 appearances with us, leaving him third in the list of our all-time French appearance makers alongside Zinedine Zidane.
"In terms of Juventus appearances, the only Frenchmen with more are Michel Platini (224) and David Trezeguet (320). Thanks for everything, ‘Cavallo Pazzo’, and good luck for the future!"
Rabiot
has been on United's radar for some time and finds himself linked with a move to the Premier League nearly every summer. His services are likely to be in high demand, and according to
Football Italia, the Reds and
Liverpool are set to hold talks with the 29-year-old in the coming days.
AC Milan, Napoli and Newcastle will also look to persuade him to join them. It's said the midfielder is looking for a contract worth £7.5m a year, more than the base salary of £5.8m Juventus offered.
United are understood to have a tight budget this summer, despite closing in on the €70million (£58.7m) signing of defender Leny Yoro. They are likely to be forced to sell before signing another player for a fee, making Rabiot the dream midfielder signing.
Finding the perfect partner for Kobbie Mainoo for next season has proven to be a difficult task for Ten Hag. Casemiro, 32, struggled with his form in the latter end of the season, and there are doubts over his ability to perform at the highest level in the
Premier League.
