I dislike flash sites. When I go to a site to see a naked woman or her schedule I hate having to wait for all the glitter to load. That stuff doesn't dazzle the viewer, it just annoys them. Flash sites are nothing more than a designer's wet dream. It serves very little pragmatic use.

I'd much rather go to a basic html page with white background and a couple of clickable thumbnails than a page with all the useless bells and whistles that only make it harder for a viewer to navigate the site and slows download speeds.

Pictures and text are all that's needed. Anything more is an utter waste.

Flash is a very bad way to build websites. It’s not only about SEO. It’s about usability. For the same reasons that mature developers don’t use “fly-out” or “drop-down” menus, you shouldn’t use Flash because it requires you to do one of two things. You can either alienate the growing minority of users using alternative user agents or you can “sniff” to find out what the user is using and deliver one site if the user is using Firefox on a Mac and another site if the user is browsing using Internet Explorer on Windows Mobile. Either option is a bad decision.

No offense here but what are you talking about?.... mature developers do use drop down menu, and Intergational flash site are build with SEO in mind. They can be user friendly.

There is nothing wrong with using some flash on a web site..... not the whole web site.....But using it jointly interwoven with html and flash creations.

What you are speaking of is from you opinion...jesus!

No the old saying opinions are like assholes...that why they created text books and stuff to refer too... they inform you, and give you objective answers to your questions.

Yup, keep it simple (KISS principle). The posts from the guys so far confirms:
1) Hate flash
2) Hate music
3) Hate clutter
4) Hates sites that take so long to load

you're right. there are hundreds, and all of them have fine print. i have spent days looking at them, trying a few out, only to be disappointed.

that's why i was asking for a recommendation.

for example, ive already paid for a name and hosting, and some only allow you to sign up for hosting with them. (this is where some 'free' building sites make money)

secondly, because of adult content, you can rule out many site building hosts, cause they will shut you down (which i have already been through)

i guess, more specifically, im looking for a builder that is easy to use, is relatively liberal (i.e does not specifically say no escort sites allowed), and allows me to use my own domain name, and hosting.

it's actually a tall order. thats why the posting
Take a look through the list at http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/resources/free_wysiwyg_html_editors.php3 - note that these are actual programs that you download and use on your computer - no mucking around with someone 'building site' or restrictions...

I've used NVU on the Mac before. It's free, simple to use and I see that it's now available for Windows as well...http://net2.com/nvu/

Good list.
The only thing that may be added is some girls would use their sexy seductive voice instead of music as an intro to their site! Not good if you're not expecting it and speakers are turned up....

IMHO:
If you're going to produce a flash page, from a usability standpoint, it is always wise to also provide an HTML version that does not require Flash to get to. I was roaming an SP's site a few months ago, and although she provided a link to the HTML version, you needed Flash to get to it. To me that defeats the purpose. That is also unfortunate when I am at work, and am forced to use my smartphone (which does not support Flash) to browse and book an appointment. Thus, that was lost revenue for that gal!
