Scaramouche or Canoe. Both have a fantastic view and fantastic food. Canoe is downtown whereas Scaramouche is a bit more uptown.

Ditto on Scaramouche. Would also add Harbour 60, Opus (my personal fave), Joso's, Nota Bene and North 44 (more uptown though).

Enjoy :)

What's the most exclusive place then? I heard that the service at La Castille in Mississauga on Dundas Street is lousy unless you're part of the one percent.
The Toronto Club.

I believe the ownership has changed. I had a terrible experienced the last time with a group of foodies, complained nicely the next day in private and was offered a redo, which was up past standards, but it was telling.

If I'm allowed in, it can't be that exclusive.
Well, you have to become a member of RCYC or a partner yacht club before you can dine in the island restaurant. You can't just simply join them; the members have to approve of you joining. I believe RCYC is one of the more snobbier places in TO because it's "Royal."

This is a very good list. Lucien, mentioned above, is a under rated and very good.

Hy's really does have too much of a business feel to it.

I would also consider The Fifth, George, Sassafraz, and Senses. If you really like fine dining call ahead to Senses and do the tasting menu there. Really nice.

If you are going to take her to Joso's do keep in mind the decor and menu are decorated with breasts, so some may not be comfortable with that atmosphere, but the seafood there is to my taste the best in the city.

La Castille is just an old school (semi washed up) steak house. Nothing to go out of your way for. If you like dark paneling and red velvet wallpaper, yeah, sure, check it out. But if you're looking for a unique "foodie" dining experience, it's not even on the radar.

The current "it spot" in Toronto is Momofuku. Momofuku is divided into three separate dining experiences at 3 separate price points.

Noodle house = cheapest

Daishu = fairly expensive

Shoto = $1,000.00 for 4 people.

http://momofuku.com/

I went to Shoto once. Food was second to none in Toronto, however, the place is (or was) so fucking loud, you could not hear yourself think. All 3 restaurants are housed in the new Shangrila Hotel in one cavernous room (on different levels). Everyone in there is screaming to be heard over the noise. Shoto is probably the quietest too and it will give you a headache.

Now that said, I went on a Saturday. Perhaps, it would be easier and quieter on a weekday, or they have added some kind of sound control.

Food is indeed - fucking amazing though.

You really want to impress? Hire a driver and take her to Langdon Hall or that chef Michael Statlander's place called Eigensien Farm.

I have not been to Langdon Hall but I hear it is great.

Eigensien farm is fantastic, but there are a few things to keep in mind. When I was last there, you had to bring a group of ten of your own to book it, because it is not a normal restaurant. Also he does not have a liquor license so you need to bring your own wine or whatever you want to drink. I have not been in about two years or so, so it could have changed, but he has not mentioned any changes in his e-mail news letter.

Groucho may have said it best in that regards.

"Royal" is irrelevant as far as exclusivity. It's a sign of historical significance more than anything. There are many clubs in Toronto that are more exclusive than the RCYC.
