FCC complaints about MNF

Did anyone hear about how ABC and the FCC are getting bombarded with complaints about a promo that ran before monday night football this week?? (eagles vs. cowboys)

In the promo they show a womans naked back, how conservative is the US becoming when a womans back is considered too much skin for television??? First a little nipple during the superbowl now this........

Im appalled by the FCC's decision to investigate this, it just shows the type of religious nuts that run that country.

Yeah, it's mind boggling the double standard on pseudo-morality issues in America. I'm not convinced it's attributable to just one group - the religious right - as probably a number of factors and voices.

Now, my rant. I can understand the whole American D & R dichotomy and both sides fervour, but I cannot comprehend this seeming hypocrisy on tv content. I've developed a tv rc clicker habit based on following: he's got a gun, she's got a gun, group of guns in running shootout. Seriously, flip thru channels and count number of actors posed with a gun. On the other hand, America (guessing) produces the most hardcore pornography content and revenue, yet goes into self-indignant paroxysms over an accidental nipple and a dropped towel naked female back. Lithe actress drops towel, we see her back as she jumps into arms of the night's superstar athlete. Cut to scene of cheerleaders bouncing and high-kicking. Fomer happens once creates national indignation, lattter happens hours every Sunday, the Lord's day, and causes no indignation. Naked back = bad, bouncing titties = ok. It just doesn't compute.

Mind you, when a woman walked topless down a Guelph street in the summer heat it produced a province wide self-indignant examination, at least with happy ending.

Ok now take the number of complaints and subtract it from the number of people watching MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. There ya go now you see the complaits were actually a percentage that is not worth worring about.

MNF is a huge, heritage show that is steeped in tradition and regularly large audiences.

I can see some uptight network types wanting to protect the perceived integrity on the property.
But...
Who the heck do they think watches the show? Guys 18-49 that's who and the more titillation the better.

Geez, it's a live sporting event that features some coke addicted drunks as commentators and many drug using, gun wielding, steroid abusing, racist, baby mamma drama, would be felon tough guys bashing the snot outta eachother. Gotta love the NFL! I sure do!

ABC isn't Spike or Playboy but they could at least address the reality of their audience and the programme. Even that crappy excuse for sport or entertainment, WWE, gets away with more.

The FDA directed Pfizer to withdraw it's ads for Viagra for being too suggestive.

And ABC was slammed for their pre-Monday ad by the FCC because they recieved complaints.

No doubt from the bible thumping Republicans in the hick towns.

Tony Dungy of the Colts has said it is even racist, which blows my mind. It wasn't offensive or racist. Who is the target audience for MNF? I can't imagine some guy in his 20's getting all upset about it. It is all BS.

Lets not get carried away here. The FDA did ask Viagara to withdraw its new ads but not because of them being "suggestive." The ads did not carry the proper disclaimer and appeared to claim to increase sexual desire (which is not exactly true).

In a letter dated November 10, the FDA said Pfizer implied that the male seen in the ads had returned to a previous level of sexual desire and activity.


"FDA is not aware of substantial evidence or substantial clinical experience demonstrating this benefit for patients who take Viagra," said the letter from the FDA's Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising, and Communications.


"If you have data substantiating this claim, please submit them to FDA for review," the letter said.
