Too bad this thread is limited to only LEAF coaches. Why so restrictive? WHY?

GTA & Thereabouts...
Pat Burns was the greatest.

Honourable mention to Paul Maurice... He almost made the playoffs with a bunch of nobodies.

Speaking honestly it is impossible to say that anyone but Hap Day and Punch Imlach can be considered the two greatest Leafs coaches.

Punch was 770-370 with 4 Cups. .562 winning percentage. And he was a total asshole.

Hap Day was 546-259. .599 winning percentage. 5 Cups.

I know those were ancient times but based on their records, they are miles ahead of anyone else.

But greatest is not favourite.

Floyd Smith deserves a worst coach mention ("I tell them to check, but they don't), as well as a finalist for worst GM.

Johnny McLellan was coach 4 years and in the 6 team east division had 2 6ths and 2 4ths losing in the 1st round each time.

Dan Maloney's coaching record was pretty bad also, but the Leafs of the mid 80's were pretty bad.

Even with the Leafs being as bad as they were in the 80's he must have been a real asshole or damaged goods for any NHL or even AHL team to touch him after the Leafs. Went straight to the ECHL - Hampton Road Admirals for 11 years in a row. Won 3 championships and made the playoffs every year he was there. His three years with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in AHL prior to joining the Leafs were decent enough too.
