I have to disagree -- for an adult human male in North America and in many Western European countries, the range of 5'8" to 5'10" is considered about average height. Granted, in many countries in the world, 5'8" may be taller than average (particularly in countries where childhood malnutrition and untreated early childhood disease is rampant, and thus stunting the survivor's height into adulthood). For an adult human male. Yes.
BTW, I'm 5'8" and when I walk out in public here in TO, I certainly don't feel short -- in fact, I would have to say I feel too tall to be short and too short to be tall, the definition of medium height.
My definition of short:
for an adult human male, 5'7" and under.
for an adult human female, 5'3" and under.
