I have to disagree -- for an adult human male in North America and in many Western European countries, the range of 5'8" to 5'10" is considered about average height. Granted, in many countries in the world, 5'8" may be taller than average (particularly in countries where childhood malnutrition and untreated early childhood disease is rampant, and thus stunting the survivor's height into adulthood).

BTW, I'm 5'8" and when I walk out in public here in TO, I certainly don't feel short -- in fact, I would have to say I feel too tall to be short and too short to be tall, the definition of medium height.

My definition of short:

for an adult human male, 5'7" and under.
for an adult human female, 5'3" and under.

under 5'4 = very short
5'4.5 - 5'6.5 = short
5'7 - 5'9 = shortish
5'9.5 - 5'11.5 = average
6'0 - 6'1.5 = tallish
6'2 - 6'4 = tall
6'4.5+ = very tall

Hyperdog, very accurate BUT I read on many dating site in the forum that women now consider 6' the minimum standard, 5'9"-5'10" & my height of 5'5" super short . In otherwords I am now looked upon as a midget & not even remotely dateable.

When it comes to women (not necessarily tall women) who care very much about their men's heights, they will classify:

5'6 and under = Waaay too short, I would never date him!
5'7 - 5'9 = Still too short, so he'd better be rich or famous!
5'10 - 5'11 = He's ok, I will give him a shot, but he better take me to a really nice place, and I'm still keeping my options open.
6'0 - 6'1 = Ok, good enough, though still not ideal. Let's find out more about him.
6'2 - 6'4 = Now that's nice. Where you want to take me?
6'5 - 6'7 = Kind of tall. But tall is nice, so let's go out.
6'8+ = Ummmm.... Kind of too tall. But we can still get to know each other I guess.

On the show "Blind Date", I've seen many women in their post-intereviews say that the guy was a tad bit too short, when in fact he was around 6 feet tall. And in Toronto Tall Men's Speed Dating: Men must be at least 6 feet tall, while the women can be any height, even 4'11.

I don't believe it's the whole country, but there is an ethnic group in the Congo and the neighbouring countries called the Twa (formerly known as the Pygmies) where average male height is around 5'. Likewise with an ethnic group known as the San or Bushmen, also known for speaking a language incorporating clicking sounds, made famous in the film "The Gods Must Be Crazy", a must see -- absolutely hilarious!

To Ladyraven, I think no matter what you say, a certain poster will always believe that all of his life's troubles (or at least troubles with respect to dating) relates to his height. Despite the fact that I've known guys my height or shorter with wives or girlfriends -- and no, they're neither rich nor famous!
