Extremely bad experience with Air Canada

I was traveling from Frankfurt, Germany to Moncton, and had an extremely poor experience.

The check in was fine, but the boarding staff were unfriendly. The food was very lousy, but worst of all, the flight attendants were shit.

My entertainment screen was frozen, and so I called a flight attendant over. She was a very ugly, 50 year old woman, who seemed irritated that I had called her for help. When I explained the situation, she did not understand. So I said, "My screen is frozen." and tapped twice on the screen to show it was not responding. She immediately became angry and yelled at me. "Stop jabbing the screen!" I said, "what?" She said, "It's not working because you keep jabbing it like that!" "I'm going to fix it, but don't touch the screen until I come back!" I was shocked that I was being talked to this way. Woudn't a normal response (instead of blaming me) be: "I'm sorry sir, I will try to fix the problem for you."

During this vacation, I also flew Qatar Airways, and cannot stress how different the flight attendants were. So gentle and polite, and also young and attractive (though they were wearing masks). Such a huge contrast. The flight attendants on Air Canada were middle aged white women, very unattractive, and very rude and unprofessional.

Not only that though. The flights kept changing on me, and I only had a one hour layover to catch my connecting flight. Of course, the incoming flight was delayed by more than one hour, so I missed the flight. Then they booked me for a flight the next day in the morning. They only gave me two $10 meal vouchers for all this trouble. I tried to see customer service, but after waiting 30 minutes in a line that never moved, I gave up and took an airport shuttle to a hotel that I had booked myself. The hotel was $150. In order to save on taxi, I had to call the hotel and verify how to take the shuttle, and spent 20 minutes in freezing weather to take it.

I filed a request for compensation, but don't know if it will be approved.

Sorry about your poor experience. If you did not purchase flight insurance with your ticket, good luck on receiving a refund.
The best airlines I have flown is Emirates, Ethiad, Qatar. The service at the airports, lounge and in flight is world class and surpasses the rest of the field.

It is amazing how much more enjoyable a service is when performed by a young attractive lady.

I’m wondering if his continued need to physically describe the attendants will also be done in his complaint to AC as well. I would like to see the their response to that.

Jen, don't ruin my moment. I was fantasizing about being felt up in first class by a sexy stewardess.

I've gone to a restaurant and asked to be seated in the young lady's section as opposed to the waiter's section. The food just tastes better in the right situation. LOL

I think this is a good reflection of all North American airlines not just AC.

I will say though I've flown AirCanada numerous times and I've never really had an issue. The one thing is I am always friendly and polite with my first interaction. Once you set someone off if they tend to be miserable folks, it's too late to save the interaction from going downhill.

I am planning a trip this spring and will be flying out WestJet but flying in on AC. They are Notorious for canceling flights and I would rather be forced to stay an extra day on vacation then to lose a day of it.

Most credit cards include flight insurance when the tickets are booked on it

Actually, I have a travel card (RBC Avion). Can I double dip and get compensated from AC as well as the credit card?

I am always very friendly at first for that same reason, and still had a bad experience.

I was being served by a middle aged lady, and i very kindly said “Good afternoon Mam, would it be be possible for me to be served by the that more attractive and younger darling instead. Thank you so much”. And then it went sideways for some reason.

Ah yes but it's the way you asked!!! Let me help you for next time.

“Good afternoon Mam, would it be possible for me to be served by that less experienced young lady instead? I would love to see how an experienced and obviously a very efficient staff member like yourself can guide the young lady to one day reach your level of service. Thank you so much”

Keep in mind that tone and eye contact are very important. Let me know how it goes!!!

This happened many years ago. One time I was running late for my AC flight back from NYC. The guy at the ticket taker booth called ahead and asked AC to hold the plane. They did.

The AC guy later told me that they are not really allowed to hold the plane because it messes up the timing of incoming and outgoing flights and AC would be subject to a fine.

“Sorry about that but I do appreciate you guys for helping me out.”

Then I would collect my bags and head on out.

This will help you determine what you are owed as compensation. Don't settle for less. Airlines must be held accountable for not delivering what was purchased. Gábor Lukács is awesome.

That sounds about right for AC.

Every single piece of luggage I’ve ever had broken by air handlers have always been on an AC flight. Once, they even broke the lid on a pelican case. Pelican have lifetime guarantees so I called head office and the first thing the guy said was “let me guess, air Canada, right?”

In terms of service they really leap over a very very very low bar.
