On February 12, 2025, Pickering's virtual Open House, intended to be a transparent discussion on the Climate Adaptation Plan, turned into a nightmare. What was meant to engage the community became a platform for racist slurs, swastikas, and graphic pornographic content—disturbing images that no one, especially children, should ever experience. The City’s failure to immediately shut down the broadcast, and their negligence in not disabling microphones and cameras, allowed these horrific acts to unfold. To make matters worse, instead of taking responsibility, the City falsely claimed to the Toronto Sun that they were hacked—a blatant attempt to cover up their gross negligence. This outrageous behavior and failure to act has caused lasting trauma, while the City continues to avoid accountability. The leadership’s actions demand investigation and a reckoning for their neglect and dishonesty.
