fucking woke me up at around 4:00 am when my house started shaking. I figured it was lightning or an earthquake, but looks like it was just an explosion at Keele and Wilson.

in my pants, where there's a party
My roommate and I were awake at that hour and we decided to drive up to investigate, after the initial blast shook our building on Eg and Bathurst. People were miling around as if it was broad daylight.

We snapped a few pics, but they wouldn't let us get closer than 1/2 km from the blaze. In fact a fireman told us they were evacuating the area, and by the heavy gasoline smell that was wafting around, we didn't argue at all.

Still, it was something to see, even at that distance

I'm not too far from the evacuation area, didn't hear a damn thing last night.
Travelling by car today is going to suck.

I wounder how many people were killed :( it sounds very bad...what a mess, all T needed...i still say a firefighter job is the worst ....some are right at the front lines of the fire now...all that smoke, heat and danger of another blast and some brave F.F. are still right there.

I saw a program on propane explosions and there was one in a small town in the US and it levelled the town...pretty powerful amount of energy stored in one of those big tanks.

Anyone remember the "Mississauga Train Derailment" back in the '70s? The one where they evacuated half of mississauga because they were pulling propane tanks coupled to chlorine tanks?

How do guys get the video - on youtube almost immediately

Video has been on youtube for hours - what is it - do guys have cameras just running continuously pointed to anywhere in the hopes they get some video of something - it looks like all the video came off the same camera - maybe a traffic cam or something similar - anyone shed some light on this?

Well Dr R, video cameras are extremely popular these days and just about everyone has one. There are so many people with them around just about anything that happens is going to get caught on video these days.

Put it another way: There are probably thousands of things not caught on camera but when something big happens, there are a lot of people that do catch it.

Just look at all the "bad bad cop" videos floating around?

Reports stat that there are no known casualties. I live in the area and after the first explosion, there were numerous small ones afterward. Just think if this happened during the day.

The plant isn't located directly near too many houses which is good. I live about 2 km east and it shook my windows. I was actually woken up before the explosion and looked outside and saw it happen. Crazy!

It sounded like firecrackers were going off for another 45 min after the main blast. I hope no one was seriously hurt. But I could imagine there's lots of damage.

I was just going to bed when it happened and I thought a bookcase in my house had collapsed or something- and I live in York Region!

After second boom I thought maybe Russia wasn't content with Georgia and was shelling us too. Just kidding about Russia of course, but it did sound like the noises heard on CNN during their live broadcasts from Baghdad during the first Iraq war. I heard three distinct booms. My neighbour called me and said it woke him up.

I live at Keele & Wilson and am one of the Toronto "refugees" today:eek:

Was told to evacuate at 4:30AM... the cops didn't have to ask twice...

Hopefully I can go home later tonight... at a friend's right now.

All I can say, it was one HELL of a bang, and I could feel the HEAT from that massive fireball!

They said the air was non-toxic but then a F.F. died  well maybe it was a heart problem--they said hes been on the force for 25 years, so he wasn't young...and fighting fires is for younger people..
