A hard loss for us. I was so proud of the way they played. But I have to admit, that Spain survived being the inferior team for much of the game and then in the last 20 minutes or so made Ronaldo invisible and came back to look the more threatening team. And Portugal....despite this being the best I've ever seen them play (though 2000 was prettier), we still can't finalize. Always the same old problem.

I was mystified by the crowd boos...those people were watching an excellent game and certainly the best so far of these Euros. These teams were well matched and though there were hardly any scoring chances, the game was exciting.

I disagree with those saying it was a mistake to have Ronaldo slated to go last. Alves was unlucky and Moutinho took the weakest PK of the night.

My Portugal's time hasn't come. We'll have to wait for Mourinho. ;)

Good luck to Spain...though if they make it to the final I'd like to see Pirlo and company take it.

Saw most of the Portugal-Spain game and in my opinion the best team on the day didn't win, but it was a good game.

Portugal were better in regular time, but I thought Spain were better in ET

As 'good' as Portugal were, they didn't manage a single attempt on target. They were great defensively it must be said however. Nani had a poor tournament.

Germany are making England look like a good team so far. Italy are all over them.

It is a good thing I don't bet on sports because I would not have bet against Germany in this match.

Kudos to Italy. They played very well. And how they could have chosen Pirlo -- as well as he played -- over Balotelli is beyond me!

Totally different kind of match than I expected coming up on Sunday but I am really looking forward to it. If the Italians play as well as they did against Germany, they have a good chance of taking the Cup... though, to me, the Germans did not execute to the level of their reputation today.

If Germany get passed Italy in what will be an amazing attacking game (I have Germany winning 2-0) then their players will have to play the best game of their lives to unseat champions Spain.
Hope you didn't bet the house or else you'll be sleeping in the park tonight............do you have a sleeping bag?:D

And Andrea Pirlo was named Man of the Match. He was good, as usual. But not great. The Man of the Match was Mario Balotteli. Period!

Sorry gents have to disagree with you, Pirlo was definitely the Man of the Match IMO. If you understand the complexities of soccer and watched closely he was technically perfect from all aspects, he never lost control of the ball when several German players were all over him, he controls the tempo of the game, unbelievable passer and controlled the mid-field throughout the game. I zoomed in on him throughout the whole game and couldn't believe how brilliant he was, he seemed to be on the ball or within a few yards of the ball the entire game, he was always in the right position all the time.

Balotelli gets the accolades because he scored both goals, outside of those goals he wasn't much of a factor. His shot on the second goal was incredible, one of the best shots I've seen considering the circumstances, but you need to play a complete 90 min, not 10 or 20 min of great soccer. JMO, but obviously shared by the those that voted for him.

Saw the Germany/Italy game and what a surprise, history repeats again. Good Game the two early goals made the game of catch up a necessity. The best team won. The final will be interesting.

history repeats again.
Yup

1970 WORLD CUP semifinals - Italy vs Germany 4-3
1982 WORLD CUP final - Germany vs Italy 1-3
2006 WORLD CUP semifinals - Germany vs Italy 0-2
2012 EURO CUP semifinals - Germany vs Italy 0-2

Not a soccer fan but watched the first half with some friends at the bar.

Paper tigers eh.

Germany can still win The World Cup but to events must occur:

1) They have to use a trequartista.

Italy was allowed to attack with ease since Low doesn't use a trequartista. Without one it was impossible for them to mount an effective counter-attack. The Azzurri used their trequartista to lethal effect when they smothered the German attack and Montolivo found Balotelli in the open. THE ITALIAN blasted a Riva that left Neuer frozen in disbelief. Germany have a potential great one in Mario Gotze, it's a mystery to me why he didn't play?

2) Bastien Schweinsteiger must become captain.
