Here I had missed that St. Augustine had already made an appearance.I keep being told that Jesus died for my sins.
So I figure I can sin as much as I want, It's already paid for.

I guess that explains how those Muslim terrorists view their religion. What the... who the... ? Jesus fucking Christ! How exactly does someone's manner of belief defeat the goddamned purpose? Are you seriously trying to tell us that "If you believe in God you can only do it in the prescribed manner that I approve of"? Who the fucking hell are you to tell me what to believe, or worse, how the fuck to believe? Whether I take the bible as parable, metaphor, or as God's own truth, or to shore up the short leg of the couch is indeed my own motherfucking choice. What you have to opine on the legitimacy of my choice (of belief) has less than fucking zero to do with matter.
I think that's the job of organized religions..."If you believe in God you can only do it in the prescribed manner that I approve of"? .
Or maybe, "God works in mysterious ways",...or "God is making you a stronger person",...etc., etc.Fast, that is an extremely fundamentalist way of looking at the world (ironically TERB as a whole has one of the most fundamentalist and literalist views of the Bible and Christianity of just about any group I know.) I can't think of a single mainstream Christian denomination which believes such God awful theology!
Calm down. I don't care that you're a hypocrite. What the... who the... ? Jesus fucking Christ! How exactly does someone's manner of belief defeat the goddamned purpose? Religious ideology is responsible for more hatred and bloodshed throughout human history than any other manmade ideology.
I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but there's this little obscure religion called Islam that has a few radical elements to it. The radical factions within the religion are only responsible for 1 or 2 conflicts worldwide, and only about 100 deaths worldwide. If the numbers seem a bit off it's because I'm using a biblical interpretation approach, 1 or 2 could be 100 or 2000 and 100 can be 10 million, it just depends on how it's interpreted. While this is likely true it has had increasingly less relevance to world history
for quite a while. Most if not all of the major military conflicts from the last
two centuries like the Napoleonic wars, American civil war, WWI and WWII had
little to do with oppression by organized religions.
Ignoring your 'manmade' conceit, you think that might have something to do with the fact that religion has existed for many thousands of years.Religious ideology is responsible for more hatred and bloodshed throughout human history than any other manmade ideology.
Gee, how do we measure hatred? Is there a Reichter scale for hatred. As for the bloodshed claim, we already handled that one on past threads and and it's not even close.Religious ideology is responsible for more hatred and bloodshed throughout human history than any other manmade ideology.
Joke's on you, son. I'm a motherfucking atheist. But just as fundamentalists and Westboro types embarrass my more progressive Christian friends, moron atheists who think the only "legitimate" possible type of Christian is a biblical literalist piss me the fuck off. Stop making the rest of us look stupid by association fer fucks sakes.Calm down. I don't care that you're a hypocrite.
Easy on the insults cowboy. Progressive Christians? That's funny, so progressive Christians get to pick what parts of the bible to follow or not, all of a sudden adultery becomes not that big of a deal, eh? I wonder if their wives know, and if they are just as progressive as their husbands lolJoke's on you, son. I'm a motherfucking atheist. There are different interpretation of the Bible going on all the time, not all necessarily progressive, but that shouldn't make you any less or more Christian as a result. There are something like 200+ different version of the Scriptures.Easy on the insults cowboy. Progressive Christians? Pretty sure major Christian denominations would agree on the matters of adultery and prostitution. There are different interpretation of the Bible going on all the time, not all necessarily progressive, but that shouldn't make you any less or more Christian as a result. As said you believe in cookie cutter morality. Sort of like saying self-defence is murder, murder is a grievous sin, there is no hope for anyone who kills someone in self-defence.Pretty sure major Christian denominations would agree on the matters of adultery and prostitution.
Exodus 22:2As said you believe in cookie cutter morality. Sort of like saying self-defence is murder, murder is a grievous sin, there is no hope for anyone who kills someone in self-defence.
So one cannot be moral or ethical without religion?Or are you attempting the sophomoric argument that morality only matters to those who believe in God, so anyone who believes in God is a hypocrite while I who am an atheist don't have to pay any attention to this morality or ethics "stuff."
Since all law has its foundation in morality and ethics, how does that play out.
Two chapters later where now things are being qualified, which you have previously said is bad religion.Exodus 22:2
Which certainly sounds to me a great deal like: morality are rules only for those who believe in God, so anyone who believes in God is a hypocrite while I who am an atheist don't have to pay any attention to this morality or ethics "stuff."I find it highly hypocritical. . . .
Huh?Two chapters later where now things are being qualified, which you have previously said is bad religion.
Not what I said.Which certainly sounds to me a great deal like: morality are rules only for those who believe in God, so anyone who believes in God is a hypocrite while I who am an atheist don't have to pay any attention to this morality or ethics "stuff."
Since if you are going for that "right, dead right" school of morality - Adultery (a sin of no shades) should apply to you as well.

As a side note, personally I try to practice a Buddhist lifestyle.
